winter tires

What are people using? I went to the tire rack site and the only winter size was 295. It occurred to me if 315 will burn up the AWD diff, a 295 would also. Anyone running something other than PS2s, or are they good enough?

I run 235/35 19 and 295/30 19. These are the factory recommended sizes for our 997TT. Make sure you get the proper load ratings/N0,N1 N2 designations. There won't be damage to the AWD diff, as it's been approved by Porsche. I've run 295/30 19 on my
previous 997 4S for 3 winters, and current 997TT for 2 winters - NO problems whatsoever.

I went with Nokian WR - they are great in snow with the snowflake symbol, carry the N0 designation, $1100 for the set:

Buy them now before they get sold out.

If you drive your car in colder weather/snow (below 5 degrees celsius), summer tires don't perform properly (grip, traction etc). You wouldn't take your track tires/slicks out on wet public streets.....why would you take summer tires out in the snow?

Yes, set your computer to winter tires and use the recommended sizes. I use the contis, third winter so far, no issues.
Yes, they sell out quickly, nokians are good, pirelli sport snows are great as well.

I run Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 N1.
F:235/40/18
R:265/40/18

The car is as fun in the snow as it is on summer roads.

I also got the Nokias when I bought the car. In generally would never buy Nokia, but these have been performing well.

W211 is infamous around these parts
I'm going into my 5th winter on my Conti. Low mileage should I worry about the tires hardening?

These wheels are quite hard from the start. You will feel if they slip too much.
