Front wheel bearing

Is there any difference in changing the 997 front wheel bearing compared to the 996? Changed the 996 some years ago and about to change my 997 to.

Thx
Cole

This looks like a hole different animal than the 996.. Looks like you have to have a special puller?

Are they making any noise? Just wondering why they would need to be replaced with this low mileage. Most cars that I see with bad bearings are over 80k on the odometer.

Just out of curiosity at what mileage should bearing be changed? Will tracking car make significant difference in wear.

Tracking or any "hard" driving will cause most parts to wear sooner and that includes bearings, but 50k with normal/spirited driving sounds way too soon

To the OP. I'm guessing they are similar to the 996. I mean in general once younremove the brakes and rotors you are looking at the spindle which is holding the hub/bearing, pretty straight forward if you've done a 996 is my guess.... However I'm still wondering if yours have gone bad or not?

still not helping anyone understand what happened at this low mileage that caused the bearings to go bad. My only guess is bigger wheels causing more strain on hub and damaging the bearing

Honestly i really dont know why the bearings went bad. I have the stock rims on the car now for 49k. Car has never been tracked a day in its life to. Like i said in my 996 the bearings failed earlier. I have also read reports of them failing as low as 30k.

The good news now is that she is smooth as butter going down the road now...

thanks for the reply, I appreciate it and also glad to hear you solved your issue and the car is like new. By any chance do you have spacers on? I just read somewhere (i think the new excellence) that spacers may cause premature bearing failures......stinks to hear since I have spacers on mine

According to H&R, their spacers don't cause bearing problems. Check out this link and click on FAQ's.
