997TT.1 running cost?

Hi guys and gals,

This is my very first post here.

I'm thinking of getting a 997TT.1, probably '07 or '08.

I had an M5 (sold already) and the running cost of that thing was crazy. Once paid $2500 for a regular service.

How is the running cost of the TT? Oil, brakes (PCCB or just the regular ones) etc.

I can see the price range of an 07' TT is around $70k. How good/bad is that?

--

Posting a blurry photo of the M5 I had along with a CGT and a 997TT GTStreet. (posted this photo ages ago in another forum). Love that 997TT, wanted to buy actually but was sold already. It was for a relative of mine.

Cheers.

Well I've spent about $1200 so far in the 3 months I've owned it. Regular stuff. I had no history of fluid/plug changes on my '07 that came with 17k miles so I had the dealership do the 20k mile service. I also felt the alignment was a little off so I had that done as well. Oh yeah, and I had the rear windshield wiper replaced. Does gas count? Because I go through a lot of gas. Probably has a lot to do with flooring it all of the time

ballparks

oil once a year $250-$300
rear tires are good for 12-15k, fronts 20-24k (your results may vary)
brake fluid flush every other year couple hundred bucks
plugs every 40k $800-$1,200 or every 20k if tuned

its not cheap but its not outrageous for the performance either.

BMW stands for break my wallet. have had many, they suck. the two porsches i've had don't cost much. just find a few local independent shops that you can trust and it won't cost much more then a lexus. i have three guys i use, one is my guy that worked at the dealer for 20 years and really knows his stuff. he charges me 150 for oil changes, yes that's M -1 . and two others i have for other things since he will not do anything that's not stock.

now here's where the money gets spent. once you start making your car go faster 10k goes faster then smoking crack!!!!

I think the biggest expense of running a Porsche is (1) depreciation and (2) mods not necessarily in that order. If you can do some DIY they're not too expensive to maintain by comparison.

Thanks for the replies.

That's not too bad actually.

CaptnCrash , regarding the depreciation, that's exactly why I'm buying it CPO'd. Noway I'm forking out $150k for a new one. I'm paying almost half price.

gmoney, that's actually reasonable, I'm not planning to mod this car. All of the cars I had were bone stock.

Tell me about it! I paid around $4k on the M5 for the year I had it. I'm not getting an M car again.

Would like to ask you the same question in 9 months!

$1200 in 3 months is kinda high.

As long as you pick one up with a CPO or some type of extended warranty you should be fine. The annual maintenance is reasonable... Anything that's fallen outside that for me has always been covered by Porsche. When my factory warranty expired in July I purchased an extended 4 year/75K mile plan at the dealer. These are excellent cars I just like the peice of mind.

i wish i would have added mods to the other cars i had, never did until this one. would have saved me tons of $ .. two reasons you should add some mods; one: the car is really plugged up without a flash and exhaust. big difference. the car will run better with just these two upgrades. two: when you do the things you want to your car ,it becomes your car, not one that gets lost in a parking lot. not only does this save $ from selling or trading it in, but for me, showed me that i don't have to have the newest one and my car is faster then a new one anyway. because they are really apples and apples .. just my opinion .... good luck with your new toy!!!!!

I never expect any service visit to be less than $1000 unless it is a warranty claim. At $175/hour labor rates it adds up fast. My general advice is don't buy one unless you can afford two. That said it's a great car the cost of ownership is still a lot less than a Ferrari.

My experience has been completely different from other posts, but all my routine maintenance is done by a local Porsche/VW/Audi independent shop. The shop charges me cost plus a very reasonable labor rate and only for actual time worked. Given that I do all the routine maintenance ( brake flush, oil, brake pads/rotors etc. ) maybe he makes the profit on "volume" but it's very fair. Also, I know that the shop makes a nice profit as they have done all the mods on my car and that is very fair. I am a very flexible customer so they can work on my car as time/priority allows. I have been extremely lucky as my car has not had ANY mechanical or warranty issues ( other than radiators damaged by track debris ) and I drive my car very aggressively on the track. I give the shop them all my business and highly recommend them to friends so I'm sure I get a little break for that. I would recommend finding a local shop that you trust and stands behind their work and develop a relationship...that will go along way to keeping costs down. Finally, I think the P-car is a fantastically engineered car and you won't have some of the issues you might have experienced with other cars...they are meant to be driven and driven hard so enjoy it like its supposed to be enjoyed.

Make sure the car is CPO. This car is not a inexpensive car to drive. Just brakes, tires, oil changes, spark plugs, can add up quick. Just rotors and pads at 30k ish is a big expense.
