How to beat a Mercedes?
Guys, i am new to the board and to driving a 911 turbo 6 speed. so please excuse this question and help if you can. i was at a light and an amg pulled up next to me. what is the best way to accelerate off the line and blow the doors off the mercedes? too funny to say, but i stalled my ride and was terribly embarassed. clutch is very heavy and sensitive.
My wife beat an SL65 AMG (biturbo V12), on MT ET streets, air filter removed, with a somewhat experienced drag racer by just simply taking the foot off the brake and press the accelerator.
(literally)
But then again, I have a dual clutch setup, so this probably wasn't the answer you were looking for...
*edit: The Mercedes was on ET Streets, with filter removed, and had an experienced driver. It was the wife's first ever trip down the 1/4 mile.

thanks all. i just executed it. i revved up to 5k rpm's and let out clutch quickly. i took off like a bat out of hell. i then tried it with psm off. left about a full second of tire tread. this car is sick. just need to get out of first gear quickly. thanks all! even the guy with a dual clutch.
Make sure that each time you drop the clutch, you put a few bucks in the "new clutch savings" jar.

You have to understand an SL65 is a 4550lbs, RWD car, with 738 ft/lbs trq (Not the lightest and easiest car to put power to the ground off the line) . GTR has a 720 lbs weight advantage over the SL65 + AWD with shorter gearing so its no Surprise the GTR beat it off the line. But get the 65 and the GTR on a rolling start and you would see a different out come.
But with the ET streets, his launch was about the same as my wife's.
It is tough to beat te instant torque of the AMG, Did you noticed what kind of AMG it was? E class are pretty fast of the line due to their instant torque, tey are deadly with a few bolt ons. Best of luck next time.
