Yes you may well be right. I know the GT2 and GT2 RS have the same part nos. I think you may even be right re 997.2 and it may well be that 991 uses exactly the same turbo but I heard a rumour the 991's turbos are smaller - just a rumour though.

Be good if one of the tuners who works with these day in day out can just confirm but AWE seem to know earlier on this thread what they're talking about.

Here's how it breakdown as far as VTG's go:

-997.1TT
-997.1 GT2 & GT2RS
-997.2
-991

Each of the above are unique. I've got actual exducer/inducer measurements around somewhere if you really want them.

As for the 991, I'll have some more detailed information about those in the future, as soon as we're ready to release our upgraded versions.

Thanks Tom and thats v.interesting. Which are the most exploitable oem vtgs and how do your 68mm compare like for like? I imagine maybe the GT2? My car has GT2 hybrid turbos with clipped billet wheels and motorsport bearings runs circa 26 secs 0-300kph on 1.3 bar of boost. Do you know what your 68mm would do 0-300kph with a similar set up on stock internals or would stock internals not be up to the job? The guys at 9e also thought the housing material on GT2 turbos is different.

If the GT2 RS and .2 TTS turbos are unique, why do they have the exact same part number and description? Also why do they use the exact same intercoolers?

They don't have the same part #'s for turbochargers at all. Their part numbers, which I verified in PET just now, are:

GT2/GT2RS: 997.123.078.73 and 997.123.077.73

997.2TTS: 9A1.123.014.74 and 9A1.123.013.75

The easy visual giveaway is that the GT2RS uses a boost recirculation valve on the turbocharger compressor housing, just like any 997.1 car. The 997.2 cars uses external recirculation valves.

So then why do they use the same intercoolers? The GT2 RS has like 100 hp more than a .2 turbo s.

At what power level then would it be actually necessary to switch to your intercoolers or AWE for example?

Honestly...I think the answer to that question is really a lot simpler then most people think. When the GT2RS came out...there was only one other Turbocharged 911 in the lineup....the 997.2TT. So rather then set out to manufacture and entirely new intercooler type for the RS (which was a VERY limited production car anyway) they just dove into the existing parts bin and used the 997.2 intercoolers. From a cost perspective, that's what made the most sense.

And while the 997.2 intercoolers are certainly very good at cooling, it's been proven by quite a few folks that they are not quite as good at flow. Many 996 guys using them on bigger turbo setups end up blowing off the end tanks. They're probably good at up to about 525-550whp in most cases...but beyond that, or with any upgraded VTG setup, I would recommend upgrading.

The GT2 RS is more than 550 whp isn't it? So essentially anything past a tune and exhaust sounds like it requires intercoolers.

GT2 RS is about 497 whp. I have GT2 RS coolers and they work pretty well at circa 550whp. Multiple 0-300kph runs without any drop off in performance apart from last few runs over 4-5 hour period.

Our stock GT2RS put down just about 565hp at the wheels when we tested it a couple years ago. Keep in mind, the main way the RS makes that power is because it runs a much higher boost level then the standard GT2...so really the only next step for a GT2RS owner would be larger turbos anyway.

Thats interesting. Porsche only claim 612bhp (620ps) at the crank for GT2 RS. By your experience its putting out more like 693 crank HP!

Porsche are always very conservative though.
