Replacement Radio 2008 Turbo Cab
Replacement Radio 2008 Turbo Cab
Hello mates well I just got the first bad taste of owning a Porsche and dealing with Champion. The other day my screen on my radio went dead. When I called Champion the first thing I was told is that you must have spilled something on radio and would not be covered. I took it to the dealer today and while the service rep was very nice he was preparing me for the worst 3-4k replacement job. I told him I did not spill anything which I didn't. Anyway they have the car and I anticipate that they will not cover it which will be really upsetting. I really do not want to spend that kind of money to replace the radio since I am selling the car. Does anyone know where I could possibly buy a used radio or have any other suggestions? Thanks.

BigAl - sorry to hear that... I totally think it should be covered under warranty. If I were you I'd raise this to corporate and try to fight it or take it to another dealer? I hate my Nav so I'd personally switch it out with an aftermarket radio - there is a couple threads on this. I believe latest Pioneer AVIC was an ideal replacement using custom bazel sold on Ebay.

I contacted the guy who has one for sale. We'll see. Once champion tells me its not covered I will try the corp route by I didn’t by my car there and probably wont in the future since I typically by cars a year or two on the road so they probably don’t really care about keeping me happy. The crazy thing is that the cup hold is place directly in front of the screen. Terrible design. How much was your system installed?

Sorry to hear that. Don't give up working with the dealer. It's often frustrating but can pay off in the long run. This should be covered under warranty.

....and so talk to Danny if he is not you service adviser. The guys at Champion honest and they have taken care of me in my previous 06 997s as well as 09 Turbo. If it is a spill leak, then that it what it is, but if it not, they have no reason to say anything different, but have them show you.
Good luck .... PM me if you need / have any questions
Porsche is Covering it!
Well gents they are replace my stereo at no charge! Not under warranty but as a good will gesture...either way its done and won't cost me a dime. This is how I did it. When I first brought the car to Champion, they said they would not cover it since according to them it was caused by liquid intrusion. The pictures they showed me had less then two tiny drops of dried coffee on the side of the radio nothing inside the unit itself; they still said no. So I called Porsche North America and filed a formal complaint. A week later I was contacted by Porsche North America who made an appointment for me to meet with him at the dealer; that was today. Just when it looked like they too were going to give me the shaft, the rep said I GAURANTEE it that if the stereo were to be removed there would be evidence of damage inside the radio itself. So I said to him “if there is not then you will cover it?” He reluctantly said yes but was adamant that he would be right. They pulled the radio out and it was totally clean just like I said. He was shocked but did agree to stand by his word and replace the unit. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

It wasn't easy but in the end Porsche Corp did the right thing. The thing that upset me the most was right out of the box when I first reported it over the phone the dealer took the approach of blaming the customer. Just today when I was there I mentioned that for some reason my AC is not blowing cold and the first thing they did was look under the car to see if the air condenser had an physical damage to it. It just seems like their first reaction is to blame the customer. Anyway in the end all is good and my service rep Doug did got to bat for me which I believed helped a lot. If I learned one anything from this ordeal is 1) NEVER EVER have any liquids in the car and 2) While servicing your car at the dealer may cost a little more, I really believe having an established relationship with dealer (which I don't) is helpful when you have major issues. Thanks for all your replies. <o
