Install should be the complete opposite of removal.

boot

Guess I'm a bit slow here. Sorry, but can I go thru this with you guys one more time? I want to exchange my leather boot for a alcantara boot and keep my ****.
- unclip the boot
- pull boot up and turn plastic ring 1/4 turn
- remove shift **** by pulling straight up
now how do I replace the old boot w/ the new one? How is the boot connected to the plastic nut? How do you get the nut off? How does the boot stay conected to the ****?
Thanks guys, don't mean to be stupid here just a bit confused!
Thanks as always for your help.

I must be incompetent but I can't even release the shift boot. Is there a trick to "pinch and lift" in the first photo? I've tried pulling, levering with spatulas, etc. to no avail.

It takes some force. The shift boot frame that faces PCM attaches to the console using plastic tabs in speed clips. It takes some force, but pull straight up. Pinching it will give you better grasp. Then give it a forceful pull upward.

Thanks!

I thank the OP for empowering me with the knowledge that enabled me to attempt and successfully exchange a recently changed shift **** from leather to the gt3 alcantara shift **** kit. Since my car is full leather, I feEl it might look better to keep the lower sleeve part leather and the **** part alcantara. Here's the pictures before/after...

Original in leather

Swaped all alcantara

Inspecting bottom shows location of snap hinges

GT3 Alcantara Shift ****/Base view 2

Swapped for leather sleeve keeping alcantara ****
