You might be ok. If you're concerned then just drain some oil and re-add.

did they drain both drain plugs? I made that mistake once and it was a headache...

If you had a dealership do the last oil change, you should be OK.
Last oil change at the dealership same thing happend to my car, called and spoke to the tech and he said they fill the car that way.

From what I've read in the manual if the oil level is within the three bar range you are okay...Meaning the top bar reading means it at the full mark. I couldn't find in the manual where it states how the display functions when it's over full...

If the segments are filled in up to the top line,
the oil level has reached the maximum mark.
Under no circumstances add engine oil.
7. If the bottom segment is filled in, the oil level
has reached the minimum mark.
Add engine oil immediately.
8. If the bottom segment flashes, the oil level has
dropped to below the minimum mark.
Add engine oil immediately.
The difference between the minimum and
maximum marks on the segment display is
approx. 1.3 quarts (1.25 litres).
One segment of the display corresponds to a
top-up quantity of approx. 0.42 quarts (0.4 litre).

On the display there is a max line and then a bar above that. If the bar above the max line is illuminated then it is overfilled...and you don't really know by how much - at least 0.4l to light up the bar but maybe more.

Not sure I'd accept that answer...so they routinely overfill?

That is my guess, I believe the tech I spoke to said they fill with 9 quarts instead of 8 quarts.

Last week I had my installer do an oil change and took 2 gallon cans of Mobil 1 5W40 Turbo Diesel and a filter.
After he was done my oil level is right on the middle bar.

Yes you are at the max line per the book.
When I got my car back after on oil change done at my dealership all lines were filled in.

Get some out, not a good idea... My tech of 30-years says to never raise it to the top bar, will do more damage than not having enough oil if you get too much.

The bolts on turbos are not drains, no oil will come out. you can probably remove the oil filter a couple times to get enough out.The other way to do it would be draining the crankcase, then top it up after.

Draining your crankcase would be your best bet. You will only loose a few quarts. Drainng the oil tank will result in niagra falls. Make sure you replace the ring before replacing drain plug. Measure the oil that you removed and subtract at least a 1/2 quart to start with. You can always top it off. Too much oil is a no no on these cars, at least thats what my mechanic said. I keep mine 3/4 or a bit more.
