What do I need to know about 07/08 911 Turbo

I am considering upgrading from a 2009 Cayman S to 07/08 911 turbo. Will this car make for a good daily driver? I commute 100 miles per day. Are there any known problems I should be aware of? I plan to at minimum flash the ECU. The Cayman S is my first Porsche and I am hooked. My only complaint is the Cayman S is lacking in the torque department. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2007 and I daily drive it. It is very comfortable and while I applaude your desire to actually drive the car rather than garage queen it, keep in mind that you will be putting 2k miles on it a month and so you will probably want to find one with low miles and sell it in a year or year and a half for another one with low miles.

TPC turbo kit for Cayman?

I have an 07 997tt that I bought used and commute in, but my commute is closer to 15 miles round trip. Fine commuter, 23-25 mpg on the hwy, if that is part of your commute, mine is not.

Gives me something to look fwd to at the end of a long day.

I generally trade cars every year or year and a half for that very reason. I know I should purchase a cheap commuter car, but I spend 10 hours a week in a car and I love cars and just prefer to drive something that I enjoy.

This will be my first used car purchase and I am nervous about it. Can't afford a new turbo, so that's out. I know that I could purchase a CPO car, but I'm sure the ECU flash will void the warranty. I suppose it depends on the dealer. I am not too far from Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach. Does anybody know if they will warranty a chipped CPO car should something fail?

I am really concerned about something major breaking on the car and having a very costly repair. Is there anything I should know before making the leap into a used supercar, specifically on an 07/08 turbo?

Depending upon in service date you may fall into the standard warranty period even with your mileage. Otherwise a CPO car is a good choice. Try it without any mods, you may be happy with a stock car, especially as a daily driver, quiet & dependable. Ask others in this forum about high mileage with mods like flash or exhaust.

Looks like you’ve had some fast cars already with the GTR and Shelby… Understanding what you posted so far I’d opt for a turbo with a CPO and call it a day. You clearly want some piece of mind with your purchase and since this will be your primary mode of transportation you should have the coverage to protect against the unknowns. The ECU / warranty discussions are endless on this forum. The turbo is no slouch as is…Maybe consider some new wheels to enhance the look instead.
<O</O
You’re going to put 2k plus miles a month on it. You may be adding some additional maintenance costs to ownership at this rate…

Buy the car, get the warranty and enjoy it! If you’re looking to save some $$$ you’ll want to limit your time on here after making the purchase!

Plus, as you see from surfing this site, the tt.1 platform, GT1 engine and the associated tranny, are bulletproof as a street car can be.

As xseal & PSTT07 said, cars as built are very durable, CPO with your Cayman trade good choice. Wheels are a good choice for a mod. On my second 997 TT with 6 speed and not one issue with either car. Check out this forum in regards to other mods for pros & cons.
Cars are really spectacular in stock form.

Thanks guys for all of your input. I guess I am jumping the gun with the ECU flash. I haven't even driven a stock 911 turbo. I know the car is a beast and I may be very happy with the stock performance of the car. Unfortunately, I am the kind of person that always wants just a little more power, and I have read how easy it is to make huge power with this car. I always have to be just a little quicker than the next guy. Thanks again.

Sounds like you won't be satisfied with just a flash. At least get a flash and a nicer sounding exhaust. Just that combo will transform the car from stock so that it will feel like another new car.
