Do your RPM's ever spike on the odd start up? The Cure is here!
Does anyone have this issue and "over rev events" being recorded as well? ie Rev Range 4/5/6 events being recorded. My car is doing this random higher rev start up thing, and also recording random rev range events. Porsche in the UK set the crank angle sensor believing that would solve the problem - they did reproduce the "over rev range" problem in the shop, so it definitely hasn't been over revved..
I had a new crank angle sensor installed recntly to see if it would fix the problem, it didn't.
To add to the mix, the car fails to start on every second or third ignition sequence. It just goes "dead". Turn the key off, start again and it starts successfully. This happens hot or cold, battery fully charged or not.

confused..

Coincidentally, there's a discussion on Rennteam about starting problems. A member there says the failure of the engine to "turn over" when the starter is engaged is due to inadequate power from battery to starter because the cables are undersized.
ok will check out Rennlist as well..
On the Rev Range issue - Porsche Bournmouth (UK) replicated the problem in the workshop. At this point they felt it was related to the crank angle sensor and "reset" the gap as a warranty job. So yes, you CAN get rev range events being logged without over revving the engine. The only reason I found out at the time was I was looking at renewing the Porsche warranty and they picked it up as part of the warranty check. A rev range 6 is over 9000 revs, which has NEVER happened on my watch.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) I returned to Australia with the car, and have now since discovered the rev range issue is still there.
I thought it may be related to the "rev flare at start" issue or the "failed start" issue.
Let the investigations begin.

My car is at dealer now for 30K service, and I mentioned this issue at drop-off. I just got all call that they'll be performing the factory fix (not described in detail except that it requires a fair amount of labor) under CPO warranty. They're also replacing TPM sensors and coils under warranty. I'm on the hook for the major service itself i.e., plugs, filters, oil change, etc. Plus they say I'm due for rear tires which I will milk a while longer.
I'll report back on the outcome...
