997.1 engine air filter change?

Is it a simple DIY? I looked in the DIY section and didn't see any pics of how to do it. Can someone post pics or explain. Is it just a matter of taking out some screws? Thanks in advance

Air filter Instructions

It's very easy to do
<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff; COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Open your engine lid.

1. Pull the air cover straight up (1 hand on each of the openings and just pull up gently).

2. It will reveal the air filter. Air filter is held in with 4 screws. Unscrew and pull air filter out.

3. Replace air filter. Re-install the 4 screws, and reinstall the air cover.

It's THAT easy. 5 minute job.

Just a quick note on the screws - I believe you need torx bit driver. I took mine out and at 8k miles, still looked new. I just cleaned up some debris and reused.

While you're in there, I'd definitely recommend upgraded to a BMC. For the money, it's definitely worth it.

There are two rubber grommet inserts at the bottom that fit into the body - make sure they don't come out or the air cover will have a lot of play and maybe rattle.

Tom - what are the benefits of BMC? More power or just re-useable?

Being re-usable is one of the benefits for sure. But the BMC is also made from a completely different material then the factory filter. Here's a link with a little more detailed info.

Hey Jmw911/Tom... any news on the filter. Other than the obvious (cleaning/material benefits) curious if you've noticed any change in sound, throttle response, power?
I'm running a full TechArt Exhaust (cats and all) on my 997TT, been thinking of changing out my air filter and debating if just a filter (BMC) exchange will be the best bang for the buck or is it worth while to look for a new air box assembly? - my one is 60k. km old... so it's definitely time.

purchase a new paper drop in filter and if you want to get fancy purchase a carbon fiber cover replacement. Leave the box alone. Horsepower claims on the cheap is snake oil my friend. you can only make HP by spending a lot of dough.... all you will do is break what doesn't need fixing......

Definitely go for the BMC. It's not the type of thing that you'll immediately notice in the seat of the pants when you drive, but in the long run, the BMC does not clog with dirty as easily as the paper filter. You'll see more consistent results as time goes by.

We've never tested it on the dyno with a 997TT but on a Cayman, the BMC actually made 7 wheel HP. Yeah...I know, we were surprised too!

Seemed like my car felt a little better after the filter, and that could just be all mental since I wanted it to be better. Felt like response was quicker. Don't know if there is any truth to that or if it is just wishful thinking but either way I like it.
