K40 installed.

I just picked up a 2008 997 TT and it has had K40 Calibre installed by previous owner. Really nice install with diffuser in the bumper and 2 led lights on either side of my center instr cluster and a remote for changing modes. I am not familiar with the K40 brand and have been using the Escort 9500ix which I think is great. I know this forum loves the V1 but I have had really good luck with the 9500. Any thoughts on the K40 here or should I stick with my Escort.

I have 2 v1s, the 9500 and 2 k40s
Here's how I rank them:

1. K40
2. 9500
3. V1

I just don't get the v1 hype. Frankly in my opinion it's the worst of the group but I suppose it's inexpensive

I have V1 in all of my cars except my 911 - in it I have the K40.

I have taken the V1 out of my Xterra to test it against the K40 and ran it side by side. They seem to perform very similarly but the V1 alerts me a little sooner (1-2 seconds)...the BIGGEST difference is definitely the arrows...I wish the K40 would tell me when the warning came from the sides. I had a 9500 a while ago and absolutely hated it - lots of re-ocurring false alarms and lots of missed alerts...so in my book, this is how I would rate them:
1. V1
2. K40
3. 9500

At least we agree that the K40 is never the worst...

I love my k40, can't beat the stealthy install. All I ever got from the V1 was a broken window when they stole it. you can always use a V1 or similar as a backup on long trips, for daily use the K40 is perfect.

Thanks everyone. I was having trust issues with the K40. I'll give it a shot. I do like how clean the install is and that the led indicators are right in the instr cluster.

I have one in my 997.1 and had the same unit in my 996. Gives you plenty of time to check your speed.

Doesn't do anything for State Troopers clocking you in your blind spot - especially now that they've gotten rid of the Crown Vics.

For comparison, this is an Escort 9500ci. Very stealth install as well. Since it speaks out to what the specific threat is ('Ka band', 'Laser', etc), I don't even bother with the display (in the ash tray). Auto mute works great, too. GPS enabled.

Photo a. LED that turns red when trouble is approaching or green when good
Photo b. Control pad
Photo c. Display (typically ash tray lid is closed).
Photo d. Laser shifter (2 in the front - R and L side of center grill). 1 shifter on the rear license (not photographed).

Speaker and GPS (USB input) up high in area of pedals.

K40 in Turbo Cab here too...had three versions in three Porsches.

My Cooper S, Lexus Rx and Audi all have V-1's.....

But the K40 is great in the Cab. I have the same setup with diffusers front/rear, 360 protection and remote in vehicle. If your unit is the old wireless sensor setup, you'll want to replace the sensors. A local pro installer who knows K40 can tell you, and it's not that expensive if so. Otherwise, drive safe, and have fun!

Thanks Eric. I have the newer model so it should be fine. I just need the confidence to trust it a bit more.

Can you post some pics of the install please? I want to install a detecter in my Turbo S and would like some ideas as far as how it will look when done.

Thanks

Recently picked up a car with K40 installed and not too impressed with it. It didn't alert me early enough twice. Luckily I was not going too fast. My eyes caught the hidden police even before it started going off. Literally, it started beeping right in front of the police. Not sure if there is something wrong with it... I have V1 as well and going to do comparison test.
