Has anyone else noticed that the exhaust note on the turbo S has a bit more rumble when the car is in sport mode?.......Or is it just psychological or that I just simply have more miles on the car now?

 

It does that on my non-S as well. You hear it more on cold start idle.

 

It is... and more throaty. Love it! (but admittedly, my '06 Carrera 4S was louder in Sport Mode.

 

When you hit the sport button it opens a baffle in the exhaust and the sound resonates. I love it it sounds great. Also, the great in the PDK get "held" longer and the engine revs higher causing the whole engine/exhaust to sound louder and better!

 

Definitely a difference in exhaust tone when in Sports mode. Sounds even better with the sunroof open.

When sport mode is activated, the engine profile changes - timing, boost, etc. The changes can be heard in the exhaust tone if you listen very carefully at idle. Same reason why on the 997s anyone that had rattle from a LWFW can get it to go away when you push sport mode.

 

"When you hit the sport button it opens a baffle in the exhaust and the sound resonates." - This is only how the non-turbo version works. Like bbywu said, the turbo exhaust has no baffle it is not mechanical.

I know because I have an aftermarket exhaust and change in sound when in sport mode is more pronounced than it is in the stock turbo exhaust. With the sport exhaust the change in sound is even apparant while driving.

There is no baffle system in any 997.1 02.2 exhaust, S or non-S. Purely a reflection of timing changes, etc in sport mode. Same thing occurs in the 997.1 tt.

 

With the Europipe exhaust, it sounds even better in sports mode!

 

our 4S has factory exhaust with baffles and before I got the brombacher on the turbo the 4S sounded better. Now turbo screams! If you add only one mod make it the exhaust. It corrects the only fault in perfect car. PDK manual downshifts are worth it alone.
