Problems pumping gas
#21
Those vapor recovery fuel pistols in california create too much vacuum in the porsche filler neck shutting the pump off... there is a band aid fix from porsche that involves sticking a castellated plastic ring on the end of the filler neck where the cap goes that is supposed to reduce the amount of vacuum build up during refilling, and keep it from shutting off.
part# 997 201 944 00
just a note.. only works with the default black plastic filler cap... not the aluminum look cap option.

I just picked up my TTS yesterday and was driving from LA to San Francisco Bay Area and I had to stop by to pump gas twice due to this problem, now I know it is not my car but the gas pump.

Got the same issue
Asked the dealer about it and he told me to flip the nozzle upside down....that it was a common problem. Either he was too lazy to do anything or there isn't really a fix.
Another thing that found worked was not to jam the nozzle all the way in but like 3/4 way in and just squeeze about 50% of the handle. Takes forever to fill up since the flow of gas is slower but at least it doesn't stop and you dont get weird looks.

I always keep a hand on the nozzle while filling my '11 997tts lest it pop out; no problems here if done like that. And our pumps DO have the black vapor recovery boot in the St. Louis metro area.

I just called the dealer and have an appointment to get this put in tomorrow. It should take only a few minutes to put it on and it is covered by warranty. You may want to call up your dealer and get it in.

Thanks! My car is actually at the dealer today for a CEL issue and I just called him. They are going to put the part on...which begs the question, if they know this is a problem, why do I have to ask for it??? It should be a recall issue for all North American Porsches. Anyway, thanks for the info and your timely message!

Yes, I would assume that they should put on every car sold in California at least. But I guess having a 3/4 full tank is not a safety hazard to warrant a recall.
BTW, what is a CEL? (sorry for being a newbie)

Maybe hopefully for you, you will not learn the magic of the the check engine light (CEL). I've owned my car 2 months and it's come on and off 3 times. My previous Mercedes had chronic CEL issues. Seems all the new fancy computer controlled ignition and emissions controls end up causing a lot of problems!

I had similar issues when I first got my 996TT. It was enough that one time I had no idea how much was going in and ended up overfilling and having gas leaking out and draining underneath the car. It was very frustrating. My brother told me the upside down trick, and I haven't had any issues since.
