Fun chasing cabin noises down...
There is some crazy annoying slightly higher pitched throbbing noise in the cabin at idle. Whats odd is when you move your head around it goes away in some spots but as luck would have it my driving position is spot on crazy noise zone. Outside the car the noise does not occur.
Forget that I thought it was my aftermarket exhaust and it cost me $5k on another to figure out thats not the case....moving on its time to stick some sound deadener in there.
I think the noise is totally normal outside the car having listened to another Turbo side by side, its just that with the exhaust, suspension bits its being transmitted inside the cabin at the perfect formula. Got some secondskin (dynamat competitor) coming Tuesday so hopefully that will help out.

Well, not a success. Strategically placed soundproofing all over and the same levels. Sounds like a trip to the dealer is necessary as it's not normal. Sounds like a high pitched whirring noise from the front of the engine near rear seats. It does move faster with rpm but is soon drowned out, clutch in or out same noise.
Almost sounds like a noisy fuel pump.
Wonder if it could be transfer of noise from the dog bones with solid mounts? Those were silent for a couple months though before this noise started.

well, dealer claims its the exhaust and dog bones and tech not thrilled about investing time to fix it. Clearly its not the exhaust. I told them to bill me for an hour and check belt driven accessories, pentosin level in the power steering, all things that might cause a high pitched whine at idle. unbelievable. failing that going to pull the exhaust and dog bones off and take it right back, albeit in a slightly more angry mood.
I've been the sound-chasing route... Get a friend in the car with you and have him/her press on various places in the car where you suspect the sound is coming from. There is no way to do this yourself. If they touch the offending part, you should hear the sound change. At least then you know where to start. I put dynamat throughout the back (as in your picture) - it didn't change a thing.
SA called, they pulled the airbox out and y pipe and it sounds like it may be coming from the water pump. Next week they will pull the belt off and see if the noise stops....essentially the first thing they should have done to begin with, Im convinced its belt driven. Glad they are a bit more open to the noise vs just blaming the exhaust which Ive never heard one cause a high pitched whining noise!
Update, pulled the belt off and the noise stopped. They think it might be the idler pulley whatever that is, part on order. Finally an end in sight, dying to get behind the wheel again.
well, its not the idler pulley. replaced that and sound still there, looks like they are just waiting for manager approval for throwing some parts at it starting with the water pump. Was under the impression the tech was not very enthusiastic about chasing it down so I had to show up in person today, he's a great tech and we sat there listening to it belt on and off.
So just one of those shot in the dark replacement things i guess. Told them it would be wise if they had test belts to isolate each accessory and they would be able to chase it down in 10 minutes. I guess that does not exist.
