Is my Tune eating up my Plugs?

I just replaced my Spark Plugs on my '07 997TT for the 1st time at only 12,xxx miles. I had a Tube Race Exhaust & Evo Stage 2 Flash installed @ 6-7k miles. It ran strong until recently(3-6months now). Now with Bosch plugs my car runs just like the day I got it. But my question is will it happen again in 6k miles with the tune currently programmed in my 997TT? Should I get a less aggressive tune? My local Porsche shop said I had signs of Detonation in Cylinders 1 & 3. He performed a Leak Down & Compression test and everything was kosher.

I know of Diesel Truck Tunes that have 3-5 Different tunes that can be selected by a flip of a switch. Is there any of these style tunes that can me programmed in our ECU's?

I think you have answered your own question, sounds like yes. My plugs were done at 18k and probably should have been done around 13-15k and thats what Im doing from now on.

Typically you'll notice that the car is slightly less responsive, as the plugs continue to deteriorate the sluggishness will continue to get worse. Many times any suspicions are cast aside and pegged as bad fuel.

my car is sluugisg to start sometimes and it sounds like its struggles to start i thought it may be teh spark plugs. my local shop said it may be the way th epistons are alligned after the car was shut off. This problem doesnt happen all the time and this happens when teh car is warm or cold.

Where are you in NY? Shoot me a PM.

Any shop that gives you that type of an answer is one that you should distance yourself from immediately.

My car was misfiring under heavy boost after about 4k rpm. I can tell the car revs up and idles a lot better now with new plugs.

on my plugs at 18k I did not notice any issues, car felt fine. But once inspected they did look rough. I think each car is going to be very different especially with how hard its driven, type of gas used etc.

Shouldn't you be running colder plugs with your tune? Like Denso IK22 or PK20??

I recall a few tuners saying with any flash you should not use the stock bosch type plugs.. seems each tuner has a favorite different plug, I would try a different type of plug..

I had terrible misfire at 22K on evomsit + exhaust tune. Fresh factory plugs and car is a beast now. I would like to see someone with suspected bad plugs and a Durametric grab a datalog and let us know what the misfire adaptation values are.

Thats what I was told. Colder plugs are only needed on Big Turbo/High Boost applications. I might be wrong

Nope heard exactly the opposite from two different experts. Apparently there is no data to support any non OEM plugs to perform better than OEM. If some one has that data please make it public!

Either way what ever plugs you run they will need to be replaced in half the time than stated in the manual if you're running a tune. I went with OEM obviously and said no to experimenting with unproven equipment.

best advice would probably come from your tuner as to what plug they tuned the cars with
