Tiptronic Trans Cooler

The trans is the weakest link, and I know... "big power go for the 6speed..." Does any one offer a trans cooler? Or have any idea how one can be made?

i know how it can be made, we need to put several blocks of dry ice in your transmission, i know this may sound crazy but if we put a red cooler in your trunk with spares, i think you will have adequate cooling

i no nothing about PDKs, but I looked into adding a cooler to my 996 tiptronic.

coolers are generically sold and you just adapt them to the tranny...

the coolers are not very expensive, you just need to get all the correct parts and adapters...you will also need to pull off the tranny most likely. Oh yeah, also find a place under the car to stash it.

+1 Find a B&M Supercooler online that meets the dimensions you require then install it inline with the stock cooler. Just make sure the connections and line you use are quality and a proper fitment. An additional tranny cooler should be one of the first mods done on tip (or any automatic).

I remember WHiteknite said there was no difference from before after he installed the cooler. The stock cooler is a water cooler so putting it next to that makes no sense.

One or two (if any) of the 40-50 modded tiptronics on this forum have an additional coolers. It has not been deemed necessary (yet). Check out vividracing's tip build...a cooler is not a requirement and in my own experience I do not believe so either.

If you plan on doing 5+ brake launches in a row a lot, live at the 1/4 mile track, or plan on doing a very long race, then yeah maybe a cooler isn't a bad idea...

The vast majority of vehicles have the stock auto transmission cooler within the radiator, so no different. A tube and fin cooler installed in-line before that cooler will have considerable effects in lowering the return oil temps on any vehicle. This is the setup you get as part a "tow package" on trucks and suvs.

Are you monitoring the ATF output temps of your tranny? Did you monitor the temps in your tranny that failed? It's common knowledge in the automotive world that excessive temperatures are what kill auto trannys. When ATF heats up above 240F, it loses it's chemical structural qualities and the clutches begin to slip. This slipping further increases heat, then the clutches burn up. This is same reason for upgrading clutch material and increasing line pressure. Deemed necessary? By whom? Just because 40-50 guys on this forum don't do something doesn't make it the right decision. How many of those 40-50 guys did their own mods or even change their own oil? The Tiptronic operates under the same physics as other automatics so sometimes it's wise to look outside the P-Car forums. I don't know of any upgraded trans builds that include an additional trans cooler as it's not part of the transmission. Not adding one in addition to a trans build in any vehicle platform isn't a smart course of action.

I'm not going to build my cooler, if there was one available I would buy one. If that was necessary then tuners would had one

After building my trany I never had any problems. I remember when I had the transmition at MKB I had asked them for a cooler and they also said it's not necessary.
