I have personally installed the PCM 2.1 kit. The unit is essentially a FM modulator that has a aux cable and iPod interface. The sound quality is sub par, and in an area that has many FM channels, full of static. You will be disappointed.
But for those who wish to install it, it requires:
1. Removal of the PCM head unit (takes about 10 minutes with proper tools.)
2. Removal of the plastic tray inside the console cover (takes about 2 minutes with Torx drivers.)
3. Attaching the FM modulator to the power source - you can use the parts that come with the kit if you have the proper terminal extractors and special wire terminal crimpers, or just use wire taps.
Again, for the effort, you can do a very clean installation of Dension, NavTV, mObridge, or Cartronics in the same amount of time, with more functions and better quality.

The factory solution for PCM 2.1 will not charge a device, and uses FM modulation (not an optical link.)
