OK to use different tire manufacturers on front and rear?
Now that Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists have screwed me up with my tires, I thinking it is a good time to switch to Michelin Pilot Super Sports. My rear Bridgestone Potenza's have plenty of life left.
Is it ok to run Michelins in the front and Bridgestones on the rear?

You can give it a try, but I definitely wouldn't recommend. You might not notice anything with a minivan or so. On a sports car it can downgrade the handling and characteristics of the car.
I used to think it would be no big deal. It is hardly noticeable on tires with little grip - all season minivan or sedan tires. With high performance tires with lots of grip you can feel the odd sensation of sudden oversteer when maneuvering at speed. I experienced on my old E36M3 - lane changing on the freeway it felt like I had rear steering and it was almost unpredictable and very alarming.
Don't mix tires. A 911 will not like it and it will let you know. You never know what you will get until you do, but I can tell you emphatically from experience with these cars you are not benefiting the car's performance by doing it.

Driving on the track with tires that have drastically different temp/grip profiles? Unless you were putting it around the track, you're a much braver man than me.
Just out of curiosity, is the difference in grip between 2 manufacturers that different than the grip between new tires on one axle vs old tires on the other from the same manufacturer?

I hear on 2wd cars that is ok but never optimal but on our AWD cars its a definite no. I can only imagine your front tires pulling your rears that want to go the other way or vice a versa (rears pushing the fronts)
