Trade my 996 GT2 for 997 Turbo?
I'm thinking about trading my GT2 for a 997 Turbo - help me make a decision. The reasoning:
1. I have a 996 GT3 that I love. And I mean love, in all of the wrong ways, inappropriate man on car love. I'll only get rid if it if I find a 997.1 GT3RS in Green that I like.
2. The GT2 and GT3 overlap quite a bit for use.
3. I can't take my wife and son on rides with me in the GT2.
4. The Turbo's are a dime a dozen. There are only 25 2004 GT2's, and I have one of them.
5. Turbo will probably depreciate faster than the GT2.
6. I have a solid trade in offer of $75k for my GT2 on a completely loaded 997 turbo in the color I want with PCCB's and a ton of exclusive options.
7. I own a 996 GT2 and 996 GT3, which is awesome and a childhood dream.
What would you do? I'm torn - the GT2 is amazing, it's an animal, but I'd like to be able to take the family out in one of my Porsche's and right now we have to drive both, which isn't always practical, and the GT3 has Euro seats, cup cables, 997 shifter, LWFW, etc etc - so not the best street car, but like I said, I love it. Trying to make a decision this week.

According to the latest excellence mag, the 996 are the depreciating at an incredible rate. Perhaps your GT2 may be somewhat immune to this, but it's still a 996 and not widely sought after. As opposed to the 997 which is actually in high demand and residuals are very high relative to the previous gen. Actually it's stunning how much the 996's have depreciated. Get yourself a 997 turbo, throw a tune on and a few exhaust components and you won't look back! It will kill it on a highway and be comparable on a track too (with a few suspension upgrades).

As a guy with 2 little kids, I can't get away from the fact I have a car in my Turbo I can take my kids along in and run errands with them safely buckled in the back seat. I've considered the GT2 option pretty hard but at the end of the day, while my kids rarely go in my Turbo, I love that I can put them in there.
Unless you are heavily tracking your GT2, get the turbo.
As it was mentioned, with a couple minor upgrades it will have you grinning all the way to ToysRus or whatever errands you anticipate you'll be running in your new turbo.

I got pulled over for "aggressively driving" my X50 a couple of weeks ago in rush hour traffic (i.e. BS) and there were 4 sheriff's county deputies making the stop. I guess they thought I'd run. As if a Crown Vic with a police package (or 4 of them) have a chance against a 996T never mind an X50...
I didn't get ticketed for my daughter in the back that was honestly under the legal weight requirement for a kid, but the seats are so darn small I couldn't fit anything under her. Nor did get ticketed for my son that's 35 lbs being in just a booster versus a full child seat and he was just in a booster given the little 911 rear seats.

Go for the new turbo. I just got mine and I absolutely love it. Besides you already have a rear wheel drive beast in the GT3. With a few mods you will be loving the 997tt. You can also convince your wife to let you drive faster because its all wheel drive ( and safer)

Put rear seats and seat belts from a TT in the GT2 or GT3. the weight difference is minimal (20lb) and you're not going to be blasting around with your wife and kid, at least I hope not. Rear seats and a roll bar are problematic though as the tend to crack skulls in the rear
They're easy to find cause lots of people take them out

Close call- the 996 GT2 is really an animal when modded- so light and no drivetrain loss with the RWD- It would be natural to feel the turbo as sluggish compared to a 996gt2- the + is the newer bodystyle + pccb option is a worthy even trade if you ask me.
