Unusual roll cage question

I'd like to install a GMG bolt roll cage and GT3 seats (997TT). However, and I know this may seem weird, I have a question about access to what's left of the back seat. I (with my wife) need to drive from Canada to SoCal each year and even with my cargo box I need to use the back seat area for luggage (luggage=various sized duffle bags). Does anyone, who actually HAS a similar cage and seat set up, know if I can still store some of my gear in the back seat area by some how putting it through the open sections of the cage. It's going to be a deal breaker as I need to get all my work related gear to SoCal for a few months each you. Shipping doesn't work well as I keep getting dinged with customs charges both ways. I'd be grateful for any photos you might have of the cage.
Is there any down side for adding the GT3 seat (comfortable and you can keep the stock seat belts as well as adding 4 point harness) and cage
Kind of weird I know, but I use my car daily for all sorts of uses.
Thanks in advance.
K

Are you talking about the new sport bucket seats that you can fold forward to access the back, or are you talking about the 997.1 GT3 seats that are a fixed back? I don't have one, but it seems like with the fixed back seats, you're pretty limited in terms of accessing the back area even if you slide the seats forward.

I've only seen it in a GT2RS which of course has no back seats, but there doesn't seem to be much room back there.

These pics are from a GT3, but it should be somewhat comparable to the TT. Looks like some usable space. How much you can get back there will probably depend on if the objects are pliable enough to fit through the spaces of the cage.

Thanks

Bonehead, The photos are helpful. I will keep the stock passenger seat so it will bend forward to allow putting in small packages of items (small bundles to replace duffle bags) but getting them in and out would be a challenge. Still it looks tight, but maybe doable - obviously I'm trying to work it so I can make this happen.

SPF4000, I wasn't aware of the new GT3 sport seats that bend forward. Any idea where I can get more info on them (& cost for 1) - I couldn't it on my searches so far. I'd like to keep it Porsche if possible so I can get it in the same interior color - to match the stock passenger seat.

Thanks guys, I appreciate this any any other info. Clearly if the seat bends forward it would be a major bonus, but...

K.

From your original description, I think you're referring to the GT2 sport bucket seats, not 'GT3' seats. This pic is from 'mllarson', but I have the same ones.

GT2 seats -wow!

I wasn't aware that these GT2 seats would fit into an '07 997TT. Great news! These seem to resolve a lot of the back seat space access problems. Any idea what one of these seats are worth in leather? Can you still use your OEM seat belts for daily driving? I understand the GT3 seats can be ordered with a fibre glass (carbon fibre?) back and are much more costly than without it. Is this the case for the GT2 seats.
Anyway, I will see what information I can get about these GT2 seats and if they are an option and if so I will jump for the new cage and seat right away. I'm tired of bouncing around the car on the track and from what I've been told a race seat and 4 point harness makes a huge difference - and maybe, just maybe, my driving times might improve. Plus, the GT2 seats look fantastic.
You guys have been very helpful. Thanks.
K.
P.S. Are there any down sides for daily driving with the cage-seat set up?

If you want it just to keep you planted in your seat, if the GT2 buckets are anything like the GT3s, they will do enough of the job by them self.

You're also talking about a roll bar setup, not a cage. A cage will go in front of you as well. Instead, consider a harness bar which hardly impede your rear seat access at all.

Considering that the GMG design doesn't actually seem like it would offer that much rollover protection, I agree, you might as well go with a harness bar. The forward mounting point being a single bolt looks like it would sheer quite quickly in the event of an actual rollover. It has no way to distribute the load across a wide footprint against the chassis. If GMG has actually done rollover testing for this design, I apologize, but this is why I'd be concerned.

You can see the small load bearing feet of the bolt-in roll hoop has punched straight through the floor. (the black legs sticking out of the middle of the car)

Very telling photo. Valid and concerning points regarding a bolt-in rollbar vs. welded-in cage. While also debatable, I would rethink a harness bar setup. Personally, I would not wear a harness securing your body upright without any rollover protection.

I agree. That slipped my mind when I mentioned it earlier.

What model car is that? Mustang? I wouldn't have thought the a-pillars along with the roll bar setup would have collapsed like that. Unsurvivable especially if wearing a harness.

This was from a few years ago. It was pretty much a worst case scenario for a rollover with the car flipping end over end and landing on the roof. Amazingly, neither the driver nor the passenger were hurt during this wreck. No idea how they managed to survive that though.

Upholstering 997 GT3 seats

Update.
Ok, I've learned a few things. First, it was the GMG RSR roll bar that I was talking about - not a cage. This is in the works.

I've also learned that getting GT3 seats in a custom color (terracotta) is a real challenge. The best plan seems to buy a slightly used black leather GT3 seat (found, this is taken care of) and have it upholstered in terracotta.

Problem: where to find the Porsche leather and someone to do a quality job? Any ideas? Think it can be matched with a non-Porsche leather?
Any recommendations for a company who will cover the GT3 seat in San Diego?
Anyone had this kind of thing done to their seats?
Thanks - if I can get the upholstery issue resolved it will be a done deal!
K
