2008 GT2 w/ back seats???
2008 GT2 w/ back seats???
Has anybody seen this listing? Looks like someone retrofitted rear seats into a GT2. Does anybody know anything about this car?

I may be wrong but I think on the GT2, rear seats may be a no cost option. I know in Europe that was the case with the 996 GT2. So it wouldn't surprise me if it was offered here on the 997 GT2.
Good-looking car. It appears clean in the pictures. There are some inconsistencies in the listing though. It says all wheel drive and power sun roof. Obviously the car does not have that, but I wonder what else might be incorrect.
Counter intuitive to me. Most 2+2 cars I had, I removed the rear seat, till I smart up and bought pure two seaters. Still sorting through how to fully remove the rear seats of a Turbo and this GT2 has rear seats. HAL don't like it.

GT2s and GT3s are imported as two seaters. Rear seats can physically be added, all the mounting positions are there, however, it creates a significant liability issue. Strictly speaking, it may actually be illegal to do so.
The car in question could also be a bastardized tt/gt2 wannabe fleabay special too...
To my knowledge, rear seats have never been a no cost option in either the gt2 or 3, here or RoW. I could be wrong...
Note, the rear seat backs don't appear to be mounted symmetrically, according to the carfax the original owner put 27k miles on it in two years, then the car gets auctioned (repo'd?) off. The car also failed a safety inspection along the way (?illegal rear seats?).
Tread carefully, if a deal is too good to be true, it probably is....114k for a gt2 would be an exceptional deal.

Funny -- I saw this listing on Craigslist the other day and was wondering the same thing about the back seats as well. The VIN appears to be correct for a 2008 GT2. The car is pretty close to where I live (Fremont, CA). I might go check it out just for fun.
Why was the response by Luxurymotors510 removed?
Anyway, I was going to say that the rear seats installed in this particular GT2 seem to utilize some sort of aftermarket backrest. If you compare them with the fold down rear backrests of say, a 2008 997 Turbo, then you can clearly see the difference. Contrary to the response by luxurymotors510, I doubt Porsche offers non-folding rear seat retrofit kits. Also, it IS quite rare for a GT2 to have rear seats, even in Europe.
In case you're wondering, the car has been relisted as well:

Just looked at the ebay auction.
If you were ordering a $200,000 USD car from Porsche, I would guess you could have easily told them to leave in the rear seats and they would have obliged.

Rear seats on GT cars are not an option (cost or otherwise) from Porsche or their dealers under any circumstance. I know this because i wanted a new GT3 with rear seats to accommodate my daughter on the odd school drop off/pick up and was told definitely NO after protracted discussion with Porsche Aus who also contacted P germany to enquire would they build the car with rear seats as a custom order. The answer was a distinct NO!....that's the way Porsche builds the car so take it or leave it! However, i was told rear seats can be fitted into a GT car by an appointed engineer from the Federal Office of Road Safety or the assigned Governing body for your country which the car is being sold in. That's how it works here anyway. We have a federal office of road safety who has a list of appointed engineers that are conversant in the compliance design rules of the country. I imagine the same exists over in USA. Therefore where this GT2 is concerned, if the installation is legal there should be an engineers certificate to prove the install meets USA safety and design rules. Out here there have been a few GT cars fitted with rear seats....its a rare case, but there a few that have the rear seat mod. It's generally not a cheap exercise either as the engineer charges for his services along with all new oe parts. The main labor cost is in the installation of the seat belts, there is a bit of trouble doing that part. I notice in this car advertised that the rear seat backs are not factory but I assume they meet the criteria for US design rules. An engineers certificate should again confirm that. I also understand that once the engineer has signed off on the job the registration papers also then require amendment to specify the seating capacity of the car has changed from 2 to 4. Those that are interested in this car should check that out. I personally doubt anyone would be so silly to expose themselves to the risk of liability by cobbling the rear seats into the car without proper approval and Authorisation.
