New here, ready to buy a turbo. Need input, please.

Greetings! I'll try to keep this short...

Ready to buy my first P car turbo. I'd like some opinions from current or previous owners on which car you think is the better choice and whether the prices are reasonable. My alternate (non-Porsche) is a GT-R. I've done my research (2 years worth). None of the choices would remain stock for long. Tune, diverter valves, possibly 5bar FPR and 997.2 intercoolers will be done immediately. I'm also a DIY guy. All required maintenance will be done by me.

1) 2003 TT, X-50, PCCB, 6 speed, 27,xxx miles. Less than 5,000 miles in the past 4 years. FLAWLESS condition. No 2nd gear popout. Highly optioned (large carbon package, Champion wheels, deviated color stitching, etc.). Slave/accumulator replaced. PPI pretty much spotless. Could probably get it for around $57,000.

2) 2007 TT, PCCB, 6 speed, 57,xxx miles. Great options: sport adaptive seats, OEM short shifter, "sport" steering wheel. Clutch replaced 500 miles ago. Accumulator/slave replaced. Service records including Porsche updates. PPI issues: obviously front curbed with front spoiler missing ($240 replacement), needs 60k service, front brake pads < 5,000 miles remaining, moderate driver seat bolster wear, tire 5/32 and 6/32. *4 in range overrevs* on DME. Can probably get it around $60,000.

I'd appreciate not just opinions, but WHY you think I should go one direction or the other.

Thanks in advance.

Not to confuse the decision, but I'd look for a lower mileage 2007 Turbo...might have to pay a little more, but definetly a great car for the money. If your not open to continue your search, I'd do the 07.

^^^ Nice collection!

Appreciate the replies. I'm open to other Porsches (actually messaged a couple classifieds on here tonight), just have a bit of reservation paying 80k+ for a 4 year old car when I can get a 2012 GT-R for close to the same price. Not sure I could live with the Nissan's flappy paddle gearbox and "drive by itself" feel for long, regardless of the acceleration and handling it offers.

I have a similar choice to make and it has come down to the GTR or 997TT. For the same price the GTR will be lower mileage, but probably not as fun. I just read the thread on daily driving the GTR. You know it is bad when the owners of the GTR are saying not to do it. Then the 997tt owners say they are doing it all the time and enjoy it. Might the trans issue or other things. I also have a guy on my chumpcar team that has a 997na and has driven the GTR. Says the GTR is numb and boring to drive, yet launches super hard and is fast, just boring as heck. That might have something to do with the drivers not wanting to drive the GTR each day. I have a supercharged Elise right now so it is super fast and will out handle any car out there, but the interior is so harsh I do not want to drive it every day anymore and need for the 997TT. Sometimes I feel like I am getting old, but I need to tell myself I am really just getting wiser.

I also debate on the mileage on the 997tt when buying. I have been watching the prices come down about 10K in the last 8 months or so on what has actually sold. You will see the dealers who try to rob people, but there are deals out there. 40K miles seems like a magic number for price drop, then 50k and more you almost have to give it away to sell it if you ever do. One with 57K miles went for $55K on ebay a few weeks ago, a 62K miles did not sell at $62K and there is the 67K miles one on ebay for the last 6-9 months for 64K that no one will touch. So depending on what you want and for how much is the real question. My worry is if I buy a higher mileage one and then in 3 years I put like 25K miles on it will I even be able to sell it to anyone anywhere? What will a 100K+ mile 997tt be worth in 3 years, then a 8 year old car with miles. Maybe 30K, maybe, who knows. So spending like 10K-10K more for a low mileage one might actually save cost of ownership, but that might put me over my budget for the car in general. Decisions.

The only good thing is the new 991 is so so so so much money it might help. <O</O

On high HP cars high miles = low price, more miles less desirable, nobody seems to want a super car with super miles. The two cars you mention appear to bear that out on the mileage/price equation. All great cars , good luck.

997 over the 996. The front spoiler on the TT is an easy piece to replace and the front pads are no biggie either. Are far as seats, you can always pick up some nice, almost new replacements if the driver's seat can't be improved on.

My advice, go with a slightly used 2011 turbo S, that way you'll be sure you won't be the richest man in the cemetery. Of course I'm biased and determined not to leave all my money to my kids and to die with the most miles on my car.

Too similar, performance wise, to justify the 40k plus premium, IMHO.
