997.2 Turbo S Tune

So, I've seen the posts asking why would you want to tune the ECU on a .2 Turbo S (suggesting that it is fast enough), and I agree it is amazing. But, has anyone put a tune on one of them? Softronic shows ~ 80hp gain, and from what I've read that is within the limits of the PDK. Just curious if anyone has done Softronic or other, and what your impressions are regarding the experience. I've already added a Europipe, and only have access to 91 octane if that helps. Appreciate any opinions.

Thanks for your post. I'm in the same boat and looking for opinions on performance options outside of an exhaust.

I suggest looking at Champion Porsche / GIAC. They warranty their mods with a supplemental warranty that mimics the factory warranty. I believe that is the only outfit that gives the confidence of a warranty.

I would not tune a tts, first it's not a mezger, second it's got a pdk($), third the ecu may not be amenable. Lastly, I doubt any aftermarket co will cover a major warrantry claim. Not worth the extra 50hp imo.

Most definitely try GIAC software: Here's a video of a custom tuned turbo S making far more horsepower than my turbo s with full exhaust, intakes, and a tune

I did the softronic tune. What a difference! The Turbo S is fast stock with out a doubt but it really is freakish once the you tune the turbo s. I went through Switzer....

The 100 extra lb/ft or TQ on the Turbo S are completely INSANE!! Definitely worth it

Thanks all.
Tom, what would you estimate the HP/TQ gains to be without changing intercoolers? Just EP exhaust and the flash.

I will defer to the professionals.

Intercoolers really come into their own on sustained use. If you're squirting in and out of traffic, I'd guess you're OK. Different story if you're into long pulls or tracking your car. GIAC Rocks! They don't take any chances with your engine.

Thanks for the explanation Ari - In the future, I'll prob go with new intercoolers.....but in the meantime I'd like to protect the warranty as much as possible (if possible). Softronic seems to be 'safer' than the GIAC, but I have questions about the reality of not hosing the warranty. So many conflicting stories here and other forums.

Champion will warranty your car (with an aftermarket warranty through champion) if you buy the tune through them. The are the world's largest? Porsche dealer. They're not going anywhere. No other tuner does that as far as I know.

I can only Imagine what 520 All Wheel HP feels like in a PDK with launch control. My car made similar 530 wheel HP and TQ on GIAC's dyno (with some pretty significant mods to get there). It spins the tires through 1st and 2nd without popping the clutch. Just crazy power.

I've said it before...and I can't even believe there are other tuners out there who would tell you otherwise. If a customer asks me about their warranty after tuning a car...there's a simple answer: "YES, it does effect your warranty." There have been tuners that have openly stated on the forums that you can flash back to stock and no one would even notice the software was ever there. Well....that's a risk you'd have to be willing to take. There's a reason why we'd never make that claim.

Our approach is a little different. We're confident enough that GIAC software has been properly tested and re-tested that we offer our own guarantee which ari mentioned. You can read the details here:

I'd be interested in knowing just how many times folks have had to avail themselves of that supplemental warranty. I'd guess very few.

That,s the good thing about Softronic you can go back to stock in 5 mins and a push of the enter button on your laptop........

Don't want to say much but I will say I have a friend whos car is modded my champion and when it came to warranty there was a lot of concerns by part of champion and their mods.... I won't go into further details , I just want forum members to be ready to 'pay to play' and not be blind folded.
