Higher Mileage 07 997 Turbo

I am looking at a few 07 997 Turbos (Tip) with 45K - 60K miles on them.

Other than the standard PPI things to look out for are there any specific things I should pay attention to?

Thx!

Carrera Mark, good luck with your purchase...you will love this car! I would suggest looking at and/or calling Bluegrass Porsche dealership. I live in Indianapolis and have met the folks from Bluegrass at various KYPCA events and they are great. I have not personally bought a car from them, but I know people who have and they are top notch on customer service. Also, hope to see you and some of the local ( Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana ) track events. If you go or want any info/help, please let me know and I'll be glad to help. Final thought...the "higher" milage car should be fine based on type of engine etc. as long as you check it out and have a really good inspection and demand good maintenance records. You would certainly think a $130K+ car ( new ) should be fine for many, many miles. I think there are some threads on guys who have tons of miles on them...and you should expect a nice discount. You could also expand your search and look for a lower mileage 997.1 and compare prices.

Many thanks for your thoughtful response. I will check out Bluegrass. In terms of the type of 997T, i need to do some research on what the differences are between a 997, 997.1, 997.2.

Within reason, the miles aren't that big of a deal to me as long as its been maintained so I am trying to find the mileage point where the price really drops which looks like 45K and then a dramatic drop once they reach the mid 50s.

Just in following the market over the last month or so, there doesn't seem to be a lot for sale in the 'mid to higher' mileage range and the ones I have seen need tires and the 60K service and not priced to reflect that.

I am going to start following manheim and see what pops up there as well.

The mileage should not be an issue with the 997.1 as that engine is bullet proof. However, I would also get a compression test in addition to the PPI and the DME readout. That should cover you and also it will give you a nice baseline on the car. Good luck.

Lots of interesting information here... two quick questions... what do you mean by 'PPI' and DME readouts?? I am in the market for one of these bad boys as well and am trying to learn as much as I can prior to taking one home!!

PPI is Pre-Purchase Inspection. They basically visually go over the car. The technician should have enough experience to be able to tell if a panel is painted badly, if there are oil leaks, brake wear and etc., however, check with the dealership as to exactly what they check as the checks could vary from dealer to dealer.

DME is essentially the computer readout that determines if there were over revving of the engine and you get a printout of the # of over revs based on RPM ranges. It also reads the version of the software on the car and the VIN. You can do a search for DME on this forum for more information.

I definitely recommend at least these checks prior to buying a Porsche.

Good luck.

and that's because, most dealerships especially Porsche ones, have monkeys working in there so before you schedule a PPI with them, check and see if they have humans or xxxxxxx working there

I know a dealer here he shells PPI certifications for 300$. A friend took a Boxter for PPI there and the dealer didnt warned him about true mileage!

So in way, 997TT mk.2 has an inferior engine??

Inferior is a relative term. It's just that the Metzger engine/block is such a great engine with a huge built in safety margin (much like the 2JZ motors in Supras). That is the block that Porsche has used extensively in their racing and is used today also in the GT3 RS and GT2 RS.

Hans likes his name spelled correctly - Mezger.

Well i know mk2 has DFI and is 15% more economical, despite the hp increase but what block using? A new type one? Or comes from a previous model
