Rock chip vs Installer damage??????

I started a thread earlier today title rock chip however under further investigation and cleaning I noticed additional damage. FYI I also posted a thread last week titled "wheel weights galore" I got a flat and had to resort to a stop at wheel works.

Take a look at the photos, this must have happened during install. Only problem is I did not notice is until just now. Anyone have any input or have had a similar experience.

Options
1. Have them pay for fixing the wheel which I don't think is possible since there are two gouges.

2. Have the shop pay for a new wheel? My conern here is whether or not the new wheel color/tint will match.

I'm so frustrated I'm going to lose sleep over this one and frustrated with myself for not seeing this earlier.

dont sweat over it buddy. everything can be fixed. never let material things own you.

the wheels look unpainted. if so, you can get them smoothed out. riteway in east bay is the place to be. if they are painted, it's even easier as most mobile service such as LMcartouchup.com can fix it for $150 or less.

i doubt wheel works will pay for anything. you'd be lucky to get $50 from them and it's not worth it to me.

Was this done by the dealer? I had my rear tyres changed on my GT3RS at the dealer and the severely damaged the centre lock and rim. Because it was the dealer they took care of it. Fixed as good as new but very expensive tyres on the RS! Time to drive my turbo more!!!

As someone just stated, don't let it get you down. I know it is frustrating but Im sure it will fixed as good as new. My perpective is a bit different... I lost my entire family within 3 years. They sufferred horifficaly. I can fix my Porsches but I can't bring back and fix them. Enjoy your family treasure dearly! Drive your Porsche and be intoxicated by the sound and feel of the most technologically advance 911.

I have been guilty of this myself and for some reason when you read it, it makes sense! thanks!

Yeah I know I didn't actually lose sleep over it, Im just frustrated with negligent people and my mistake for not catching it.

Very sorry to hear that, it really does put things into perspective. I'll get it fixed and move on

Yes thanks I read these replies before bed and put my mind at ease.

So does anyone know of any reputable Bay Area Shops that can fix the damage?

I've used these guys in Denver and they did a great job with the repair and matching color. It is a franchise so you take your chances with the quality of the local guys but maybe someone has done business with them in your area. They are East Bay location but I believe they pick up or even repair on site. Good luck.

Riteway and LMcartouchup.com are your best bet in SF bay area. Should run about $120-250 tops for complete wheel restore to pretty much new condition. You can find cheap repairs for $50-90 but results usually are 90% perfect only.

Another member here had an unpleasant experience with an AWRS franchise. I asked him to briefly post his experience. I don't want to take way from the OP's request for help, but this may be useful information.

Wife's car had a rim scratched up during a tire install a couple years back. The shop told us about it at pickup and got everything fixed. While it's hard to do sometimes, I keep telling myself most people are honest.

I wish there was someone like that around here. Might have to look and see if anyone is up in NoVA.

I have had my wheels scratched up by the local guys too yet any time i have the dealer change the wheels, nothing gets damaged

Lesson learnt is...always go the dealer and make sure you have them look at the wheels (the face/edges) to make sure the wheels are un-damaged prior to their work.

This is one of very few times where i would take the car to the dealer

You're kind to say "unpleasant" - he did have a horrible problem with his local franchisee...I remembered parts of the story and that's why I said "It is a franchise so you take your chances with the quality of the local guys...". Usually best to ask the local dealer or other high end local dealers who they use.

So I've contacted LM touch up, waiting for an appointment. Does anyone know the method used to add material to the gouges? What is the process? I'd rather have a imperfect touch up job than refinishing the entire wheel.

and i thought i had an OCD You can not keep the car perfect... It will develop imperfections as it gets driven

I don't even want to think what would happen if you had to re-spray a panel

OCD I'm far past that, I think I'm crazy I know the car will develop imperfections overtime which is fine, I remember when my RS4 got its first rock chip it was terrible but I got over it and then got more rock chips.

Problem here is the damage caused was due to negligence so I want to get it fixed and have the negligent people responsible pay for it.

This sort of thing has happened to me and it seriously sucks! I now make a point of going over everything on my cars that could have been touched when I have work done. The dealer replaced my rear tires on the Cayman last month and luckily did no damage at all, which is good for them because the turbo II rims aren't cheap

Rock chips, etc kill me as well, but I always try to remember that more than likely no one else will ever even notice such minor imperfections, and if you're going to drive a car on the street, something will eventually happen
