Looking for a clean 997.1TT

Hi 6speedonliners,

I am following this site for I would say at least 2 years and enjoy
every moment. Seems very nice Porsche enthusiasts and great
information.
I am on and off trying to figure out if I should finally pull the
trigger and give myself a 997.1TT 6 sp manual. Still have some kind of
weird feeling in my stomach imagining spending so much money on a car…
Want to keep TT forever and would be a weekend car.
Everything should be stock and no de-tunes please.
I have a few questions / thoughts about my purchase: is it a smart
choice to buy a pre-owned 997TT just prior of the 991TT or TTT
introduction? I have no reference if prices of the 996tt dropped
significantly when 997tt was introduced. I would also like to buy from
a private source that took great care of the car and the car checks
out preferred to dealerships.
So any help is appreciated. If you know someone in the market selling
or maybe planning selling yourself within the next months, let me
know.

Rough details of my feature list:
• 997.1TT 6 sp manual
• GT silver metallic or similar color (would consider blue or white,
but no black. Too hot in Arizona.
• Full leather interior (beige, cocoa, ebony, black)
• [640] Sport Chrono Pkg Plus (could be optional) – no use for clock on dash
• 6 speed manual
• [220] Locking Rear Differential
• [xcz] Sport Shifter (optional)
• [450] Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCBs) (optional)
• [p01l] Leather Adaptive Sport Seats
• Deviated stitching (optional)
• I prefer a "one – owner" car native to AZ (best case)
• CPO or any extended transferable warranty
• Accident free

Hope to find something pretty soon,

Hi MJA,

Price Range is I would say 70s to mid 80s plus minus depending on specifics.
Looked at a 2007TT with 10k miles that was offered for 95k which I felt was way too much, even considering the fact that this car was some kind of demo car for the first 5k miles and everybody using it had fun.

So bottom line is that I try to get my 997.1TT as cheap as possible but I do know what they are going for. I am already observing the market for I would say at least 2 years now.

I also don't anticipate huge price drops once the 991.1TTT will be on the market.

Isn't the 991TT a year away? From what I understand more miles shouldn't hurt but may help the price. Also I saw that you mentioned RMS problems on 997.1TT on your other thread. Could you explain, you have me concerned.

Hi Goldduster,

This is my very first post and I hope there is no RMS issue on the GT1 type of engine. Just looking for a lower milage to get extended warranty cheaper if I decide to get extended warranty at all.

Completely different setup. The TT has NO RMS issues.
Are you tracking the car because if you arent then you dont need the Diff or the PCCB. Unless you want the worst brake job $$$ of your life.

You should try a tip too. Don't listen to the haters that think its a bad thing. Its so much fun to drive. Both hands on the wheel as that is where everything is anyways. I come from a Military Flying background so having all my controls on the wheel is just what I want to have. And your Phallus doesnt grow if you have a 6 speed either, contrary to popular belief, plus the guy that just beat you every way from Sunday in the TT next to you? has more fun and is going faster. The tip is faster to 60 and 100 also 60-130. As you still have to downshift in the 6sp and I will shift faster than you in my Tip

Squat,

PCCBs is not an absolute requirement, but it would be nice to have. If it would ever break down without any valid warranty any more I would replace it with regular brakes - except I get rich

Would like to have limited slip differential - just piece of mind.

Also I am not intending to track the car. But I think I will have lots of fun on the weekends cruising around town. Doesn't bother if someone is quicker than me, just want to enjoy ownership.

I will take your advice and will check out a tiptronic.

And brake boost the Tip at 2500 or till you see the boost build with sport on and let off the brake and hold ON!! you will be at 80 before most cars hit 30.

As to the dif, you would have to be able to defeat the traction control in a turn to the past the point of what you should/can be doing on a public road. Its very handy on a track with MOTHER off, however there are risks one accepts at a track. On the road driving MOTHER off is fine if you wrap yourself around a tree but if you kill the dad on the way to see his little girl at her gymnastics competition....................
Would the limited slip save you? Nope. All its going to do is regulate the power and you do not need it unless you are at a track.

Plus one set of tires because you decided to f around with the tail around the twisties will quickly get you to keep the modes on and have a constrained, yet immense fun. What I love about the car is that it makes me better of a driver than I am. I can concentrate on my lines and driving.
I got a Tip without the Dif for the reason I am never going on the track and even for occasional track days, I was told by some very good porsche drivers that A: get a Tip, B: dont waste your money on PCCB and Limited dif.

its funny none of the great manufacturer drivers use the stock 6 speed. Its much different setup.

I have the TIP also and also enjoy it, additionally mine has been upgraded with GIAC mapping. Obviously, many Porsche owners love the manual, but with the way the RPMs rise so rapidly the TIP, in my opinion, provides a safeguard.

But how many drove a tip first? Or did they buy into the " must get manual, must get manual" deal like they do on the other forum. One genius said " the tip is crap and the worst ever made" LOL he of course doesnt own a 997tt and driven neither. Although like most they try to say they did.

I have been watching the market for over 8 months, daily. The prices are not going down in fact I think they may be going up a little. If you can spend in the mid 80's and want silver one I don't know what you are waiting for?? There's only about 10 billion silver ones out there an the mid 80's will put you in range of almost all of them.

The 997.1's were built into the recession (2007/8/9) when car sales went drastically downhill. Therefore, as we a coming out or this recession (slowly) the used vehicles supply is low and demand is starting to increase. Used vehicles sold new at the depths of the recession are now becoming more in demand as people want/need to replace older models. One of the few things holding down used car prices (believe it or not) are the new car prices including mfr rebates and exceptionally low interest rates. If new car prices increase you will see price increases (or less price reductions) in used vehicles all the way down the line. Pure Economics; Only wish the government economists went to the same school I did

It's just the summer bump... happens every year. The best time to buy a used sports car is right around Christmas on a cold, rainy day.

When you do find one have the Porsche dealer do a PPI for you and have them check the batteries on the TMPS. They last around 5 years and you cannot replace the batteries, you need to replace the sensors. 07 they might need replacement which is around 1k from the dealer for 4 new sensors and about $100.00 to install. I found my TPMS sensors at Sun Coast Porsche which was half of what the dealer charged.
