Oil Seepage

Fellas, I found a slight oil seepage on the right bank of the motor. I had my motor rebuilt about 8K miles ago using the EVOMS motor upgrade (rods, headstuds and gaskets). They claimed this package was good for 1k+ whp and im only running my 775 kit still and have not added anymore boost just yet.

What do you think I should do?

I know, I know.. It is a small leak, but I recently (8k miles ago) rebuilt my motor using a package from EVOMS and paid big buck$$ for a motor that was allegedly bullet proof. I am planning on adding more power to the car soon and this is a major set back! Im thinking better head studs... Im also loosing faith in the 997 section and thinking to post this in the "gear head" 996tt/gt2 section.

Go back to the rebuilder and ask them...it doesn't appear to be too serious.

I would not blame the head studs just yet. I would think more along the lines of a faulty gasket. If the heads were not seating correctly, I would expect the see it starting on both heads.

You shouldn't have a leak. I suspect your heads are lifting. Improper torque applied to the studs would do that. Bad fuel and detonation could also contribute. In any event, you need to get that fixed. Hope you get it sorted out.

Salerno,
Sorry to hear about this. My haphazard guess would be that this is a build issue. The Evoms website literature alludes to a specific technique to ensure the head studs are torqued correctly. Did your builder know this and follow whatever those instructions are?
http://www.evoms.com/marketplace/ViewProduct.asp?Now=8%2F16%2F2012+3%3A44%3A05+PM&P roductID={A4FBD41D-9D1E-4145-BD2F-F00FC7F6EAE7}&OrgID={CA5E16BC-D877-4137-8237-7EB9084DD3D8}&ParentID={DB632267-FE09-40D4-866E-E6F70332D6E0}&Curr={DB632267-FE09-40D4-866E-E6F70332D6E0}

Good luck!

That's good news! Is the Pentosin from the coolant system or the hydraulics?

I blew a power steering hose at the track this summer (hydraulic system which also powers the clutch I'm told) and learned that it is not an uncommon problem in high HP cars on hot days. Even if the hose doesn't completely let go, leakage can occur. The real problem with the hydraulic Pentosin (CH11 S, I think) is that it is highly flammable and you don't want it spilling all over a hot engine. Unlike last summer, this was my year to get lucky....Best,

PS This is one of the major reasons Porsche went with an electronic steering system in the new 991's, a change which has largely gone unappreciated by those who complain about "lack of feedback", etc.
