PCM 2: Alternative options

Im currently looking at a car with PCM 2. I think it looks dated and spoils the look of the interior versus the PCM 3. From what I can understand its not just a straight swap from 2 to 3 - unless something new has been developed?

If not, what alternatives are out there that look good? (almost OEM - not cheap aftermarket)

Many thanks

Also - want to hear a solution however I fear the only option is aftermarket . I believe Porsche says no go to the PCM update and forces that upon us by tieing the head unit to the VIN.

I believe to have a reasonable looking aftermarket head unit - stick to any of the units that have the ***** and buttons on the face such as the Pioneer AVIC - X940BT rather than the full touchscreen (Z140BH). I think it does a suitable job at looking oem vs. aftermarket. My 2 cents.

I could be wrong - and hope I am.

If you go aftermarket is there any impact on the car (sports chron package, seat settings, etc)?

I'm disappointed that I haven't seen more action on this thread... while I'm absolutely in love with the 997.1 (and just picked one up! triumphant post w/ pics tomorrow-ish!) I don't dig on the 997.1 PCM... I'd like to switch it out with something touchscreen that still has a **** for volume such as the pioneer or kenwood but don't want to sacrifice overall car functionality.

I have replaced my 2007 PCM 2 with a new Alpine unit. I'm really happy with the results. The only thing I miss is having "hard buttons" to do things. What I mean by that is my wife has a Murano, and while the display is the same size, she has physical preset buttons, and such that make things easier. Now, as far as what I miss from stock, not a heck of alot truthfully. The only thing I can think of is that the steering wheel controls are a bit more responsive stock.

That's a great writeup with a local (to me) shop! Thanks for the link.
