What am I in for?

I just finished the service countdown over the last 30 days and now have to make an appointment with the dealer.

I bought my 2008 997TT in June of last year (2011) with 19k miles on the clock. Now I'm up to 36k. It was CPO and had the full inspection prior to delivery. I have done no work on the car, other than a Dension, SmartTop, and a new battery. The brakes have an occasional squeak from time to time, but nothing atrocious. It really runs well.

I have read that spark plugs are a possibility, in additional to usual service, but I'm not sure how much to keep aside for this service visit.

Any ideas on what will be done, and how much it will hurt?

2008 TT's are supposed to get a service with plugs at 24 or 28... cant remember which...if you get the total service at the Dealer it will be over 2k... around 2.5k I believe... find a good Indy to save....

This is the exact reason I havent pulled the trigger on a 997 I've had my eye on. I'm currently driving a 900 whp Supra which I have contemplated selling and with the purchase of a 911 not only am I driving something with half the HP but maintenance will be an issue as well. I think that I'll stand pat on the Porsche for now. Can't stand the thought of not being able to make crazy power without losing my life savings.

Will a good Indy shop do the same work and be within CPO warranty?

You bought a Turbo without checking in advance how much service costs?

You know what they say - if you have to ask...

Seriously though - I have a guy here in NY that is rock solid - I'm still CPO - but for routine stuff - I go to him. Find a Porsche specialist and you will have a friend for life!

Good luck.

LOL of course I looked at the service costs. I'm also building a house right now and really want to know what I need to do versus what they "recommend" I do. If its better to do everything at once and is more cost effective in the long run, so be it.

If you change plugs - the engine has to come down, then you might as well do more then plugs. I am sure there are people here who know what should be done. I hope they write it up here, with part numbers and such, so that when I have to change the plugs next time I do the rest as well.

Great idea! Can anyone please provide me with some guidance?

The guy i bought my 07' from had the plugs done...it was about 400 in labor and he supplied the parts.....not terrible IMO, but yeah you should probably check the service costs or find a good indy. If you're not a PCA member think about becoming one, there are great deals through them at a lot of very trustworthy indy's out there.

Thanks again for the great advice, though I don't think I'll be doing my own spark plugs LOL.

Can anybody recommend a good indy shop in the Brevard County, Florida Area? I'll even consider Orlando if needed.

Sure, call Dan Cleary at the Werkshop. 724-2059, 7630 Industrial St in West Melbourne, 1 block south of Ellis and a couple blocks west of Wickham.

Plugs are what will kill you. No problem finding a dealer that will charge you about $1500 just for the plugs. Dealers will also charge $400 for a brake flush, which an indi will charge about $100 for. It's hard to save on the plug change because it can be over 8 hours of labor. The bumper comes off, so if you want to change exhaust, this is a good chance. If you plan to mod - flash plus exhaust, you could think about a clutch as well. Some people tried to convince me a clutch is a maintenance item on a turbo and 40k is not uncommon.

I just had my plugs and coils changed on my 996T. 4 hours of labour at an Indy.
