Discussed before but not clear: Normal Boost values?
I've done a lot of searching to find out what the normal boost is for 997.1 2007 turbo. Seems that most threads say normal boost goes to 14 psi with about 17 for sport mode. But, you also see threads stating about 9-10, going to 12 or so with sport mode. Most of the time, the threads say this is not normal, so there's a leak.
Well, there must be a difference between the various models, i.e. 997.1 997.2 and the various years.
All you got to do is take a look on youtube and you will see 2 different bar graphs on the gauge, one model showing 0-14 and another showing 0-18. So just based on this, why would Porsche use a 0-14 if the boost could go to 17? Likewise, why would porsche use a 0-18 if normal is around 12 with boost?
So, what is normal boost for a 997.1 2007 with the 0-14psi boost gauge?
Thanks

I've always been a little confused about Boost as well.
I have a 2012 Turbo S, and it shows from 0 - 18 (1.2 bar).
Under full acceleration, I go up to 17 PSI, then it drops down to 13-14-15 PSI at higher RPM in Sport PLus.
I'm not sure if that's normal or I have a leak... I'd guess it's normal.
Edit: Anyone with a Turbo S have any videos of Boost? To compare

Ok, but what is full load? I've done many 0-80 or so runs and never see above 12 with overboost.
Oh, and overboost only is in effect from 2000-4500 rpm according to the owners manual.

I can't be certain but you may have a problem. I was out in the car this morning and pulled 70-90 in 4th and the gauge clearly read 17 with the over boost up arrow

Hope this helps.
Also, getting 17 PSI only happens in certain RPM Range right?
Like I said, I see 17 on my car, but once the RPM's go past certain spot they drop down to 13-14-15. Gear change and back to 17.

Ok, it seems we still have the same situation here.....boost gauges read 13,14,15....17.
I am talking about a 997.1 2007 with a gauge that goes no higher than 14!
What is the point of a gauge when in the so called normal situation it can not read higher than 14. The meter will be almost always pegged!
Can anyone test this with a meter that goes 0-14 on a 997.1 2007?
Look in you tube. You will see what I mean!
Here's one video of a 500hp 2009 showing a gauge of 0-18psi ....values go 14 and up. Like they should.
Can't find one right now for my model with a gauge reading 0-14
Any ideas?

1) horizontal line gauge that goes from 0 to 14 (since the line gauge doesn't show over boost, it goes no higher than 14), and
2) in Sport Mode, a numerical reading with an arrow next to it that shows PSI when on over boost.
The second one above is where you would see over boost psi along with SPORT indicated to the left and an arrow indicated to the right of the number.
if your gauge only displays 0-14 then you do NOT have the chrono package, hence no sports mode, hence no over boost (17+ psi will not be achieved)
