Which Would You Rather: '10/'11 TT Stage 1 or '11 TTS Stock?
Which Would You Rather: '10/'11 TT Stage 1 or '11 TTS Stock?
After some searching and driving, I am gravitating toward buying a used 997.2TT/TTS. I'm starting to look now, but will be in the market later in the year once my current lease runs out. It seems that late model TT's can be found around the six-figure mark with the TTS another $25k above that. Seems a bit much of a jump in price with the TTS not depreciating as much.
But I was looking at some of the Stage 1 kits (ie: EVO) and it seems that a tune and exhaust get you to a higher level of power than a stock TTS for a lot less money.
I plan on this car being a DD and weekend toy so it will be used year-round and not babied.
So what do you think, just save a bit of money and tune a TT or step up to a TTS and leave it stock?
Thanks

I have done both. As long as you go with EVO type upgrades you are good. However my current 12' TTS is a freight train as stock. Just needed to upgraded the exhaust and air filter. More air in...More air out makes for a happy Turbo which delivers at will.
GL on your decision.
My 2011tts was the fastest car I've ever had, bone stock. I was running with the cup cars on street tires at WGI. Just couldn't take the pdk, even with the paddles, eventually just ended up putting around in "D" all the time, missed the 6mt.
Its a tough decision, I personally do not mind modding my cars and actually enjoy doing it so I would take the .2tt and mod to keep it interesting.
IF your not a fan of modding cars and dont enjoy doing it, go for the TTS and keep it stock (If you have the budget), it is Extremely fast bone stock. You will be able to cope with most/all the cars you may face on the road keeping it stock.
Keep us posted on what you get & Goodluck!
TTS is what I'm shooting for myself relatively soon. Mild mods like exhaust and air filter, as CALGUY said, and you're set. For me, I plan exhaust, air filter, coilovers and some aftermarket rims.
Only dislike I currently have for the Type S (besides the entry fee) is the centerlock rim design. I might look into changing that out actually...

Is there a definitive answer on weather the warranty is voided with aftermarket tunes?
If so, then the decision is easy.....TTS.

Is the power/acceleration difference of the TTS compared to your current TT that noticeable?
The logic of installing an aftermarket exhaust is somehow "a lesser offense" compared to installing an ECU tune is flawed.
Service manager just said big NO-NO on the ECU tune and that it WILL void the warranty. Guess my dealer is not so mod friendly.
You can always find a flash that you can do through the OBD II which allows you to revert it back to stock, like the FVD tune, just takes a little more time to revert the tune prior to service.
I would not flash a 170k car, the minimal gains are not worth loss of warranty. Besides, the Siemens ECU is not that easy to fool.

Significantly faster, remember the tts is a 10 sec 1/4 mile car off the showroom floor, the 997.1tt would be in the high 11s, significant difference.
I have a '10 TT with EVOMS stage 2 tune installed by Sharkwerks. The dealers in my area know Sharkwerks (I'm about 25 miles from them) and seem to be mod friendly, at least with Sharkwerks' products. At least that's what they told me in person but I have yet to take my car in for a serious issue (knock on wood) so I wouldn't be able to say for sure.
