Engine light???
I was driving to work today when the Engine light came on.
The car is running fine and has 39,764 miles it's a 07. I am hoping it could be a bad Sensor.
But I know someone here on 6SOL will know. The 997.1 Ecu seems very sensitive compared to my previous M's!

Will do first thing I just wanted to see if there was a common problem first Thanks!
Second most common problem is an owner who leaves the gas cap off or loose.
If you find the gas cap secure, read/post the codes.
A simple $69 code reader from Auto Zone is a breeze to operate and will pull up codes and even allow you to erase them and check MIL status. Definately a "no brainer" for even the most modest late model car owner.
Reading the codes you act as if I have the proper Tool for this. Did I hit a nerve when I asked this question? I never had this happen sorry for inconvenience!!!

No one would know how to help since there are hundreds of codes that can cause a cell to come on. Without the code your question is well a stupid question to be frank.
You can get the codes easily pulled for free at any autozone/kragen if you don't have a obd2 reader so sorry if others including me aren't too helpful.
Get the codes and post them and the replies will be a lot different.

But on a more serious note, isn't there any way of getting a error number or something from the onboard computer, my BMW's (since E46 I think) you could press the select button for 10s and get a code number...
Frankly the questions wasn't a brilliant one to start with, it should be obvious that a CEL can be caused by so many different errors that you couldn't get any answers. And if one ask stupid questions I think one can deal with a few "stupid" answers without loosing your cool.

+1 no there's really not on a Fourm. Thank you for your kind support!!!!!!!!!
Based on your original post, no one on on 6SOL will know. You provided no helpful info other than the light is on so any diagnostic help won't be available unless you want folks to guess. So my first guess is gas cap - take it off and put it back on making sure it is secured tightly then see if the CEL goes away. CEL comes on for emissions related problems.
Fugazi that's the way to go... I always take my car to Champion, they are better than the Collection
