Best Windshield Mounted Radar Detector

Guys,

I am going to be driving through Europe (France, Switzerland and Italy) in a few weeks and wanted to purchase a Radar Detector that doesn't require a complex installation in my vehicle.

Can I please get some recommendations on good units that don't beep and buzz every five minutes, but rather alert me just when there is a speed camera or man with a radar gun.

Budget wise I am would like to go for what is considered a god value buy for a reliable and well built product that doesn't trough up lots of false alarms.

Thanks

P.S. this is the Fiat that I will be driving

I've been using the battery powered passport solo for over 20 years and love it. It also has laser detection. It mounts to the windshield with suction cups or the visor with a clip. If the windshield has the extra tinting at the top the laser detection may lose its effectiveness. That's why I put it on the windshield. It has worked every time--no tickets at all. It has paid for itself many times over. It's easy to use in your other cars or rentals and no plug in wires to deal with.

For windshield mounts, the V1 is considered top of the line. So are the top Beltronics and Escort units (Beltronics and Escort are the same company).
One clarification about the laser detection feature in radar units. Don’t rely on it. Laser shots don’t scatter and bounce around like radar does. So unlike with radar, it is very unlikely you will detect law enforcement shooting laser at another vehicle. If a radar detector picks up your vehicle being shot with laser, it’s too late. Most people I’ve talked to who have a radar detector and laser jammer system turn off the laser detector feature in their radar unit (so did I). I would leave it on if I didn’t have a laser system, but would not have confidence in its warning capability.

You might want to check the laws in some of those countries. There could be heavy fines for using a detector. Also, like the UK, I know Switzerland is mostly cameras, so I'm not sure a detector is going to spot a camera before you are nailed.

I like my Escort redline with Bluetooth for Escort live on my iPhone. Warns me way ahead of any radar detection. Users will flag cops even when their radar hasn't been trigger, just in case.

Valentine One is the only option as far as I am concerned. Have used it in several performance vehicles.

Anyone know if you tint a windshield if the radar detector will be effected? Also if you have a piece of paper in the way, inspection sticker, will that effect your results?

In VA RD are illegal. So is window tint of any value, however I have a waiver that allows up to 35% on the driver and 70% on the windshield. I was thinking of getting the redline but I need it hidden.

I was told it can affect the laser detection ability. You may want to call customer service and ask them before you buy one.

The tint or the paper? I think I could put it next to the paper inspection sticker. Which with the tint would help hide it.
