Just bought an 09 TT :) Totally new to this type of car and power

Hey All!

Thought I'd say hi after just having bought an 09 997 Turbo My first porsche and first car with this much power! wow! ( previous car was an M3 ).

Ive only just got it and am already wanting to buy stuff for it... My list so far :

Bigger wheels
Better top wing
Dectane rear lights
Front drl upgrade

Regarding the bigger wheels, has anyone ever ran a mixed setup - 19" fronts and 20" rears? Would this totally **** the geometry up? Ride? handling?

Also, i know most people dont like the harshness of a 20" ride but is there anyone on here who is running 20"s wheels and can shine some light on this for me? Ive got H&R lowering springs on there already. Ive tried searching the forum and have found the usual mixed reviews. My main question is more so the feasibility of a mixed setup. Im not going to be tracking the car at all so just want a nice street setup which looks mega aggressive.

So before someone starts bashing me , Im not going to be racing this car around a track. As long as it still handles superb for fast street and isnt going to kill me ...

This is what i was thinking about:

Option 1:

20"x8.5 - 245/30-20 Dunlop Spt Max
20"x12 - 325/25-20 Dunlop Spt MAx

Option 2:

19"x8.5 - 235/35-19 Dunlop Spt Max
20"x12 - 325/25-20 Dunlop Spt MAx

Any insight from guys who have "been there and done it/tried it" would be much appreciated

Il be posting some pictures up of how the car looks in its current form as soon as get my camera back from my bro.

Welcome aboard. Mine's a '08. Regarding the wheels-never heard of staggering the sizes on these cars. I have the 20's that you are considering (Champion RF67) with the tire sizes you noted. The only down side is that you will have only one tire choice - the Michelin Super Sports (highly rated).

Welcome. I have 20" HRE's and run 255/30/20, 325/25/20. The ride is a little harsher than my other P-car that had 19's. The road noise is also considerably louder but adding a Europipe solved that issue! I wouldn't stagger them but I wouldn't be afraid of going with 20's. I've also tracked my car a couple of times without issue. Good luck.

Welcome I left most of my car stock with the rear dectanes, I also just got an exhaust from a fellow member on this board and it sounds just nice not too loud, not too quiet, and no drone!

I don't suggest different wheel sizes, these cars are extremely sensitive to different diameters between front and back and early on people were frying differentials when messing with different tire sizes much less different size wheels.

M3 to Turbos are very common progressions. I did the same.

Cheers everyone!

Im looking forward to start "playing" with mods Iv'e laid the idea of running 19"s and 20"s mixed setup to rest. Seems like it would mess with the diff!

but im defo leaning towards 20's! i think they look great. ( obviously the right choice of wheel makes all the diff )

I am a e92 M3 to 997 Turbo convert also. In my opinion if you don't need the trunk space or bigger back seat the M3 provides then the Turbo is the obvious better choice. The V8 sounded good but the Turbo sounds amazing and is much quicker and lighter feeling.

Congrats on your purchase KJ!

Yes i do like the e92 M3 and was going to buy one last year but my brother had a porsche and when i drove it i knew what i wanted. The M3 is a great car with a great beast of a sounding engine which sounds a lot better than it actually goes. It felt heavy to me and not torqy at all..

But the porsche is
a) A PORSCHE
b) A SUPERCAR
c) Very few cars in the world can compete with a turbo in any aspect of automotive engineering excellence full stop
d) I never thought id ever be able to afford a 911 Turbo ever ( unless it was at least 10 years old ) lol

It had to be a 09 911 Turbo. There is still too much of a difference between the cost of the last of the Gen 1's like mine and the first batch of Gen 2 Turbos.

Congratz on the turbo M8 ...

P.s. 09's are the best 997tt made (Still hunting for one myself) ... So be extra happy, forget em .2's ....is yours a 6spd?

I'de personally suggest you fix the suspension first to weed out the mushy understeer followed by an exhaust for audio entertainment ..... Then once you're used to the power kick add a tune of your choice ... In hindsight that is the best order to get the most fun experience from this machine ...

Enjoy in good health ... Post pics ... And long live 3rd gear ...

Edit: skip the dectanes, get the .2 led's ... A good body shop could modify your existing bumper if you dont want to buy a new one .....

Yes it's a manual box. Short shift, stage 2 DMS map with their own quad sports exhaust.

I have thought about the bumper mod but it didn't work out much cheaper than buying the New bumper.

What was didn't about the 09? The pcm?
