Which Michelin? Pilot Super Sport OR Pilot Sport?
Shopping for rear tires for my 997.1TT
OEM Tire's are Michelin Pilot Sport's (PS2). Which is a better tire? PS2's OR Super Sports?

If you're not worried about lack of n-rating - PSS are better in my opinion.

$331 vs $535 a tire. Thats a huge difference in price. I thought the PSS where a Hi-Perf Tire.

The short version is Porsche approves certain tires. When they do they give it a rating of N0. If there is a revision to that tire it then has the rating N1. Two different schools of thought are it means nothing & it means everything. I put Michelin Super Sports on my GT2 and have a set here for my GT2RS when it arrives. I drive in too much rain to feel comfortable with the cup tires that come on the car. To confirm TT Surgeon's comment - buy four if changing from what is on the front. BTW when Porsche gives the Super Sports an N rating the price will probably go way up.

I'm running 20's. I've run the PS2's on the track and they were very good. I've recently run the PSS at the track and they were execellent imo. More stick and longer wear....hard to beat that value proposition.

Since the PSS have much better adhesion, you will probably experience significant under steer to begin with and when you over correct that with lifting, braking or turning more you wee get crazy over steer.
Don't mix them.

Just to clarify, are you guys referring to these Pilot Super Sports (sold by Tirerack):

Compared to the N1 rated by Michelin & Pirelli, don't get any cheaper than this!
Customer top rated, all star reviews Only drawback, no Porsche rating

Hate to confess in public, but that's what I'm doing. I would have suggested that a PS2 would likely have a stiffer sidewall, especially for the rear spec tires. However, I have not found any ill handling attributes of the PSS tires in the rear. I'm running 305s on 12s in the rear, which may offset that weakness however. I'm running the stock PS2 235s on 9s in the front and do not notice significant understeer. I believe michelin actually recommends the PSS as a replacement for the PS2 for other vehicles, suggesting they are interchangeable. I would not run different ones on the same axle, but front to back seems to run fine. If others have had different experiences, please share. General comments on both tires suggest similar attributes, if anything the PSS has a higher tread wear rating, suggesting they would have slightly less traction than a PS2. Hence, might hesitate about running the PSS in the front and the PS2 in the rear. Given the better tread wear, going to a PSS is a no brainer, especially at the reduced cost.

Just replaced the stock rears w/Sport Cups. Suprisingly, she's not out of control, locusts did not come, planes did not fall out of the sky.
Unbalanced handling in track conditions? I can see that.
Daily driving at posted speeds? Has not been my experience.
YMMV,
