Real Tiptronic Paddle Shift Steering Wheel

Hi,

I have been ordering parts like they are free because I really HATED the strange and awkward shift buttons on the steering wheel. Our cars deserve better - MUCH better.

Well, several thousand dollars later....

Last night I spent six hours fiddling and built myself a paddle shift Tiptronic steering wheel that does not require any dealer programming.

In the pictures below you can see that I used my factory thicker steering wheel. I'll have to this again on my super THICK Techart steering wheel

I have a solution! The world will never be the same.

nice solution ,they look like the Mercedes AMG paddles ,did you have to cut in under the steering wheel in order to fit them in?

They definitely look like AMG paddles.

I'm in, what's the deal?

They are AMG parts. There is lots of cutting into the steering wheel.

I was very nervous to cut into my steering wheel. However, it turned out OK.

I'll be selling this steering wheel next week after I do the same treatment to my Techart steering wheel. Watch for it in the for sale section here.

There is some electronic stuff that needs to done as well. The biggest issues are to keep the CAN BUS signals clean so that you don't generate any error messages or disrupt any of the other functionality.

I have only driven my car about 20 miles with the paddles. After this weekend I'll check for error codes and report back if it caused any issues. At that point I'll share specifics.

Did you really hate those push buttons that much?! I can still see them there to haunt you (do they still work?) Those paddles look good-sounds like you enjoyed the project.
