Porsche windshield = weak.

This is ***** rant. No solutions are available except to replace, I'm sure. No matter how far I hang back, how fast I am going, if a rock/pebble maks it's way to the windshield, a chip will result. When a strike does occur. It sounds like the whole thing will crack.

Yup. Awful! When the sunlight hits my windshield at just the right angle the entire windshield looks speckled. Being so low with a sloped front doesn't help either. Chip magnet

Yea mine the same way. With sunlight at the right angle. There's specs across the whole windshield.

What's the damage on a factory replacement?

Get a windshield rider

Farmers has a windshield rider policy add on with a $50 deductible. In the past 10 years - 6 windshields (one car x2). Here is my car list and the highlighted ones needed a windshield replacement from a crack. All Porsche.

Even funnier, the 2003 TT cab had a windshield replacement x 2. The installer broke the brand new windshield when it hit the windshield wiper post during the install. Very fragile glass. Ill never forget him calling his boss - could hear the guy yelling at him.

I need to stop tailgating gravel trucks on the freeway.

Has not affected my policy rates

I think I may need a 12 step program for my car buying problem. LOL

I have replaced one Porsche windshield on the 20 or so Porsches and 20 or so other cars I have owned over the last 20 years and yes these Porsche windshields seems to chip up pretty easily. It seems that the 964 and 993 windshields are tougher than the 996 and 997 cars.

Great info. I'll have to make sure I have the right insurance coverage so I don't have to come out of pocket at all for a replacement.

My State Farm policy has a zero deductible glass replacement clause. Whenever the chips and dings get annoying enough, safety hazard you know, I just get a new windshield courtesy of SF. With three cars, that's typically about one per year. Best,

Interesting... do they actually need an adjuster to look at it?

Mine is absolutely full of specs. No outright gnarly chips, but it is peppered to hell.

No, but you do have to use one of their preferred installers. Once you know who that is, simply take the car in, tell them to bill SF and that's the end of it. At least, that's how it works here.

Is this an OEM windshield replacement?

I've had the same issue as everyone else in this thread and would definitely consider a replacement. Disappointing for a car that is so well built.

I've had this done with other cars (non-Porsche) and they were replaced with non-OEM windshields.

Doesn't the OEM windshield have the radio antennas in it? Do the non-OEM windshields have them?

Was just thinking the same thing after I typed my post.

BTW, did I see your turbo at the Porsche Roadshow in Homestead last month?

Yes that was me.

I apparently got lucky with a great run group and had fun.

It was a good event, but Audi's is about 10 times better. Got to drive pretty much every single car in their lineup at at a small autox course, the street, and PBIR -- including the R8 V8 and R8 V10. The best you can do at the Porsche events is the C4 (dont remember if it was even the S). With that said, the best car they make right now is the Cayman R -- what a blast it was to drive.

I've not asked the question directly, but I doubt very much that it's an oem replacement. I suspect that SF's negotiated reimbursement rate wouldn't begin to cover something with "Porsche" stamped somewhere on it. It does, however, have a built-in antenna and keeps the wind and water out just fine. No issues with distortion or anything like that either. So, unless you're trying to keep your car 100% original or enter it in a concours event, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Best,
