Roll bar for 100% street cars?

Just curious what you guys think about a rollbar for a 100% street car. Obviously this would be a worst case scenario, but if something happened at high speed, any thoughts as to how this would help? Any concerns about one would fare with a non-padded bar and no helmet? Obviously the GT2 includes this on a street car so I'd assume Porsche has done crash testing with non-helmeted passengers.

Anyone "tested" a rollbar in a P car?

Apparently I forgot about google. Already debated in length with a coin toss on the outcome.

If it is just a roll bar and not a halo or door bar and it was well clear of your brain housing group, I think it would be fine. If there is ANY chance any body part could hit it, then I would say no.

As long as you are sure that no occupant would come in contact with the tubing I am sure it would be OK. The main issue I have is you would have no way of knowing that a passenger would 100% be wearing a seatbelt.

On a road only car, I would say that your chances of getting hurt by the bar out weigh the potential life savings of a install like this. Why? Because if that were not the case, there would be more installed by the industry.

After reading the debate on Pelican I decided no, risks outweigh benefits for me.

I know of one person (through the grapevine locally) who had an 8pt. cage and was involved in a traffic accident and suffered brain trauma (bad). This was years ago,and a GM car, but pretty sad.

A 4 point with proper seats and harnesses and I agree it would be a coin toss. But I think its really not worth it personally

A full cage?! That would be absolutely insane and no reason on earth to do it. When you say "roll bar", are you talking cage? Harness bar? half cage? etc. There's a difference.

Never mind - just saw you decided against it. Smart move.

I was referring to a rollbar only, but regardless based on the arguments, I'll pass.

The only reason on earth to do is it, is due to strict NHRA rules at most Dragways (in that particular instance). It is hard to walk the line of a street car/weekend strip car once you get to a certain point.

Now they have bent the rules for '08+ production cars due to the amount of high 10/low 11 second factory cars.

Same would go for a weekend track toy. Getting hit by someone else is not on everyones mind when they hop in their car for a quick putt around town. That said, I think that is the point. Just not worth the risk

I was debating on caging my old weekend car as well, and this was the reason why. As everyone has said though, the risks are just too high. So now I just do a pass and hope they don't kick me out afterwards haha.
