Vert vs Coupe
Vert vs Coupe
I'm in the market for a 997.1 TT. Just can't make up my mind whether I should go for a coupe or vert. For those that had the same dilemma, what were your considerations to choose what you ultimately went with. Right now, I am leaning towards a convertible. Twin Turbo, AWD and drop top seems to be the best of everything. I do like the lines of the coupe though. Decisions, decisions, decisions...
I had to make a similar decision as well. Previously had a 996tt coupe and in the interim an s2000 and an M3 convertible.
When the top is down there is no substitute.
However I ultimately decided to go coupe for the 997 turbo for 2 main reasons.
1) Climate. The number of days it made sense to drive with it down vs up (live in Ontario and lots of highway driving as well) was way to out numbered way too much in the top up category.
2) The additional squeaks and rattles that come with a convertible from driving on northern climate roads is a constant annoyance. THe 911 loses about 70% of its rigidity when you make it a cabrio. You don't notice it as much with the top down but always with the top up. Thus when you also end up driving with the top down more often than not - the annoyance is there most of the time.
Thus went with the coupe.
Now if I could just afford a 12C spyder - the answer would be different. No change is rigidity.
Good luck with your decision either way.
No if I could

The lines on the coupe are what got me. That said, I drove a convertible for several years and loved it - it was a Honda S2K mind you, but still fun. I looked at both options when purchasing my 997tt and I kept going back to the coupe - to me, it just looks better. Either way, enjoy and best of luck in your search
I have a Cab, my second. Had coupe in between. I wonder about that statement that the Cab loses 70% of rigidity-I didn't notice much, if any, change.
Being in south Fl I can enjoy a top down drive year round-summer is worst as it is just too hot during the day. Now is perfect cab weather. I love hearing those turbo sounds. If lived in the north, well, I don't think I'd have a cab if I had to brave the elements of those winters. If you park it in the winter-get the Cab.

It's obviously not true, but my opinion is that Cabs sre kinda.......girl cars. I just relate that to what I frequently see with other car makes, and usually I asee women as the ones having convertibles.
I'm a cab guy. Though I don't drop the top every possible day, there are plenty enough times that I want it down when screaming along, and I could not care less about the different lines of coupe vs cab. When you are behind the wheel, it matters even less.
The 'which one is more masculine' argument is laughable
.
Get what YOU want....and enjoy it. You can't go wrong either way.

I agree that the lines on the coupe look better than a cab with the top up. But IMO, nothing looks better than the cab with the top down. Especially if you have a good looking interior (like brown or terra cotta
. I also spend way too much time in climate controlled environments so I really enjoy cabs. Now just make sure you get the manual transmission to go with it and you'll be set!

I have had two 997TT coupe's and two cab's and love the cab in AZ over the coup, but if lived in Boston I would buy a coupe. Funny thing is when I sold my 08 cab the guy who bought it was in Boston.
For 6+ months I hardly close the roof. Even on chilly April mornings.
The cabrio is truly exhilarating on a sunny day. I really enjoy the fresh air and sunshine during my commute, just some nice tunes and it makes my day.
For me the cab is unique and special. It's stored until April, can't wait for spring. Whatever you buy, it's still a great machine that you will enjoy every drive. Best of luck.

This is such a good droptop, one of the best by far. You really feel like you're outside and yet you can still have a conversation at high speed with the top down. The 997 was the first cab they designed in parallel with the coupe. Even in the winter with the top up the car is very comfortable and there is no wind noise from the rag top.
