FVD/Softronic tunes

I'm considering getting an ECU tune and both FVD and Softronic are running sales right now. FVD claims gains of ~50-70hp while Softronic claims ~100-120hp gains. This is quite a big variance. Does anyone have any real metrics/dyno numbers on these? Thoughts on one vs another?

I'm looking for something safe that won't jeopardize my CPO. Thanks for any help and please let's not turn this into a "tune bashing" thread.

If you ever want to use Durametric then the FVD and Softronic promo's are actually the same price. Softronic includes Durametric whereas with the FVD you'd have to purchase it separately.

That's on the price front. On the power/tune front, I'm actually in the same dilemma as you right now, trying to decide between the two.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what will the Durametric provide me? What do you use it for and what is the benefit vs not having it?

http://www.durametric.com/default.aspx

Diagnostic tool. Allows you to read/clear CEL's etc. All the features are listed on the website above.

With that said, the flashing tool FVD uses seems superior to flashing via the durametric cable. It's more fail safe should something happen making your chances of bricking your DME slim to none.

Hi.....

Can't speak to FVD, but Softronic has great gains, has been flawless for a number of years on my car.....AND...you get a Durametric Cable included.....and Great service from Scott, who is a Porsche wiz!

Good luck with your decision.....

The gains are 60-90 depending on 997TT or GT2 and for 93 or better fuel. 91 will show less gains. The flasher that we use will re-write if it has to and is not any more prone to fail than any other flashing tool. When you flash a Porsche any tool used has a possibility to have an issue just as the factory tool also.

We will be including 2 further rev's to these files sold by this special and they can include adding larger turbos, injectors etc. The Durametric is also used for data logging to aid in these rev's and custom tuning.

The special pricing posted on the web site at http://SoftronicSoftware.com does end today.

Best Regards,
Scott Slauson

Scott, if I ever have an issue and need to flash back to stock, can the dealership detect that the ECU was flashed previously? I've heard from some dealers that they can and some people say they can't. I'm concerned about voiding my CPO.

What are the most common engine issues your customers have had? I'm in sales as well, so please don't say "none"

I would say that depends on how the file is being checked and by the dealer or Porsche.... Any tuned file will show up regardless. We have had many customers flash back to the Original file without issue. When a true Porsche file is loaded back into a DME it is possible to detect that the DME had been flashed at one point yet it wouldn't be known when or by what etc. The CVN would show the DME to be correct and OK along with the binary as a whole. As an example a car had a flash on it at one time and it was taken in on trade. The dealer updated the file and CPU by flashing it with the Porsche tester. The DME would be all correct yet it would show it has been flashed at one point if checked further yet not currently or when etc. The DFI cars are different as Porsche first looks at the box and the programming is done differently. Should you have concerns then the best answer would be not to flash it until after the warranty ends.

The flash itself or tuning isn't a problem yet byproducts from the increased HP have been. These would be spark plugs that are at the end of their life and will misfire from the added loads. This can happen with any car that has increased HP over the stock amount. The more HP the more the increased loads. A weak clutch will be found out sooner as once again the added HP can cause them to slip. Basically if the clutch may have lasted another 2k miles with the stock flash it may slip at 1k more miles. The way the owner of the car drives it will also impact the same parts on their life.

Best Regards,
Scott Slauson

There is only one flash that won't jeopardize your CPO...

Really gets annoying when every tune thread turns into a "will this affect my warranty thread".

If you're worried about your warranty, you're in the wrong game. Not to mention this topic has been beaten to death in every single thread.

If it's really that annoying for you, why are you wasting your time on this thread or responding? Spend your time somewhere else. LOTS of people have this concern so let the people that care talk about it!

You're acting like the guy who posts comments on ESPN articles about the Lakers, complaining how all they do is talk about the Lakers. If you don't like it, don't click on the article!

I'm participating because I'm currently torn between the two as well.

What I'm not doing is asking people to spoon feed me information on a topic that has been absolutely beaten to death where absolutely no new information can be contributed that hasn't already.
