Filling a scratch in the clearcoat

Ok, so I have a couple of long, very thin but deep scratches...caused by a dog jumping up on the front of the car...

I can feel them with my nail so are likely just through the clearcoat. They are very thin, however and I'm not quite sure how to remove.

Wetsanding may not work due to the depth so was thinking of filling with either paint, or paint mixed with clearcoat, or just clearcoat. Letting it cure, then level off by wetsanding and polishing (or using langka, I have some somewhere).

What do you recommend? I'm prepared for a full panel respray but was hoping that would be a last resort.

If it did not get into the color layer, I think your best bet as you suggested is to fill with clear only and build it up a bit, then carefully wet sand with very fine SP, and then polish. It may not get it perfect, but likely the best bet.

After trying that, if you are not happy with the results, you can always do the panel spray as suggested.

Good luck,
DC

Yeah I'm going to give that a go. May just soften the edges first before I fill so it doesn't refract the light as much. Will show some photos before and after. Thanks for the feedback.

Good luck. I tried a fix like that but didn't work. Now it looks worse...so I need a re-spray. But to color match, I have to spray a few panels. Good news is that the place is really good and does nothing but high end cars and is owned by a BMW dealer and has a full warranty (I've had them fix other cars of mine twice when it wasn't absolutely perfect). The bad news is that is very expensive. But you get what you pay for when it comes to stuff like this.

Thats always a big risk isnt it? It probably comes out worse more than it comes out better. Anyway, I'm prepared for a respray so fingers crossed.
