Thinking about going to a 997.1TT
3/13 went fm 02 996 C2 to a one owner 07 997.1 TT, 19k miles-2 yr CPO at trade in price. Even though it's a tip i just love it every time i'm in it or look at it. Definitely made right move- in last yr only issue was temp sensor-
If you get right car at right price- do it you won't regret it.

A 997.1 is a great choice, particularly if you can find an 09. PCCB's, adaptive sport seats, LSD are all desirable additions. It's kind of a tweener, it still has the 3.6 Mezger engine, but the improved PCM system from the 997.2's so it has bluetooth, XM radio, and a touch screen NAV. The challenge, they only built about 320 couples and 550 cabs in 09.
Go for it! Just ask that they throw in a neck brace for the power.
I drove a 997 C2 after driving the 997tt and without a doubt I went for the power of the tt. Nothing like being at/close to the top of the food chain.
Make the move and enjoy! I drove mine to work yesterday and a local business owner said "nice car and a vulgar display of wealth". I just ignored him, I bought my 08 used with 14k and am enjoying every minute. I've worked hard to be able to afford such a small luxury, I pay more than my share of taxes (IMO) and am enjoying every minute.
NO ONE can say anything to take the smile off my face

I agree to try the .2TT...the suspension changes along with the improved AWD make the car's handling superior IMHO. Drive the two back to back and you'll see. The car is plain "tighter" too with improved switches. In that way the .2 is more modern and 991-like.
It's not all about the engine, and while it may not be possible to modify the DFI engine to the same extent as the Mezger, many of us don't want to. I prefer its increased power (500 or 530hp), driveability, smoothness, and efficiency. That being said, I wish it sounded better, but at least that's easily rectified.

I also don't know about XM on '09s - my understanding is it's technically capable, but wasn't on most or something like that...
I bought a 997.1 coupe (2009) 6MT... think in the long run it will prove to be more robust than the 997.2 plus it is easy to tune and handles ok....
I agree the 997.2's I drove handle a wee bit better but for $80k you can get great 997.1's

The challenge though is that there were only 321 couples and 551 cabs sold in 09, that's down from over 2100 sold in 08. I guess they were winding down production in preparation for the 997.2
