Champion-GIAC 9-second file uploaded :)

Just got back from GIAC, who uploaded the Champion/GIAC 9-second file on my car after BBI yesterday installed the Champion intercoolers and BBi exhaust.

The power difference between the "plenum" file that I used to have (just tune + IPD plenum) and this file is insane. The top end pulls so much harder it seems unbelievable to me that these are stock turbos. With just the plenum\tune the car was already a beast and some of you have seen my recent Shift S3ctor Big Willow roll-on vid:

On Saturday I head up to Ft. Shafter Airstrip in lovely Bakersfield for the NoFlyZone 1/2 mile event and will have some good footage from that. With how strong the car is pulling up top, how explosive it is on the "hit" (at 40-45mph) crossing the starting cones, and how efficient the PDK trans shifts, I will be asking 800 wheel cars to run. I'll probably loose some, but I might win some too

Any photos of your BBI exhaust? Did you end up going with HFC's or catless? Mufflers or muffler-less? Louis over there has fabricated some muffler-less setups for 997.2's with hfc's that sounded really good. Make sure to post up some videos!.... Not enough videos around of the 997.2's with the BBI exhaust.

So would a tune and exhaust really make a big difference on the 997.2 turbo? Mine is not an "S" though.

I remember when i tuned my Audi R8 v8 and added an exhaust, the gain felt was minimal.

Loooooved the video! Thanks for sharing

Sorry no good pics yet but I'll get some this weekend. Here's what I have just before the install and one of the tips I took last night.

Exhaust is incredible...and I'm an exhaust freak. My M3 has a full titanium system and so I'll pay whatever to get the exact sound I want.

In this case, I wanted my car to sound like a GT3, except with turbo spool. And this exhaust delivers big time. There are no mufflers - the HJS cats are where the mufflers would be. So basically it's a straight pipe set up with the turbos and cats doing the muffling only. And it doesn't sound like a dump truck on decel. That was big time no no for me.

I'll be doing vids of the exhaust as well. Sound never comes through like in real life though. But this thing is just so visceral now...and again I can't believe it's stock turbo for the brutal top end pull it has.

From what I understand there is no difference between the Turbo and the S in terms of the motor except tuning but I could be wrong. In any event there is a massive difference if you do the Champion/GIAC tune, Champion intercoolers, catless (or bbi hjs catted no muffler) exhaust and IPD plenum. This is the bolt-on package that I did, which will also do the same for you:

Niiiiice Longboarder! You've really upped the stakes now...can't wait for footage of your runs at the Ft. Shafter Airstrip! How about an exhaust vid to tide us over...straight pipes must sound awesome! Do you HAVE to install Champion I/C for the 9 sec GIAC tune? Is that considered stage 2?

Haha I know what a beast your m3 is... I'm a frequent poster on m3post as well. I doubt your 997.2 is anywhere near as loud as your m3 though when you had the MRF x-pipe. In for the vids... Always wondered how a 997tt would sound with a muffler-less x-pipe with hfc's or catless.

Any other mods planned? I heard through the grapevine that BBI is developing an upgraded fuel system for the DI motors using secondary port injectors and also a pdk upgrade.

People come from all over the US and Canada...so OK is like an easy drive lol.

I was helping set up the timing equipment the Friday before the last event (Sat and Sun) and Shift Sector invited an Alpha 16 GTR and an 1,600 wheel Lambo to come and do testing. Bad news was that both blew their motors - the GTR on the first test pass and the Lambo just warming the car up. The worst part was that the Lambo was just trailored in from Quebec with a crew of 6

Haha working like crazy right so probably will just do the exhaust vid at the Airstrip. But yeah, to run the Stage 2 "9-second" file you have to install the Champion (or equivalent) intercoolers and really any free-flowing exhaust plus the IPD plenum. The exhaust should be catless but there is one exception and that's the BBi exhaust which uses HJS 200 cel cats but they are moved away from the turbos and placed where the muffler would otherwise be. There are at least two of us running this exact setup.

Yeah not M3 catless loud, but it's louder now than my M3 now that I switched to the full Akra Evo. It's awesome because if I drive the 911 mellow in automatic mode and not in sport or sport plus, it's still very quiet. But press the Sport button and the change in valving just wakes the exhaust up big time. And pushing it the car screams just like a GT3. I did some tunnel WOT pulls last night and it was much louder than expected.

Not sure about the next mods. I really need to stop spending money on this car and just drive the crap out of it
