Does any tuner/company make a cat bypass that keeps the stock OEM muffler for the 997.1 tt?

Is it even possible? Haven't studied the stock exhaust to see if the cat is a seperate piece or if it's welded.

Sure. They are called "test pipes" in the industry. Just search around, there are are few options. The rear of the cat is welded to the exhaust, so you would have to either remove it all, or cut the cats off and weld your test pipes in.

Example: http://shop.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/9...Bypass%29.html

Replaces the cats and mufflers.

Factory exhaust is all one piece. Probably not worth doing, as you will have to mutilate the factory system by cutting off the cats....no natural spot to do it....and fit and weld the bypass/straight pipes on...

Here is what the oem exhaust looks like LINK

the bulk of the gains from exhaust systems are due to the either the removal of the cats or going from OEM cats to 100 or 200 cel cats. Paying 5k for just sound is a tough pill to swallow. In most platforms, you can get a really nice sound and great power from just swapping the cats out without touching the mufflers.

It's surprising that the OEM porsche exhaust is welded to the cats.

I'd imagine going with straights pipes and removing both cats and mufflers would be too loud.

Seems you have no choice but to bite the bullet for these overpriced exhaust systems or going custom from a muffler shop.

Just not that simple with a turbo. People have tried the straight pipes and they are way too loud. If you go to a muffler shop for a system, chances are really good it is going to drone like hell. Unfortunately it isn't that easy to make a system that will sound good, add performance, AND not give you a cel. If you want to save money, buy a high end system used.

I agree, but the turbo is prob the worst sounding sportscar with the stock system, so it needs a new one.

I am installing a Kline system hoping for a relative cheap improvement wo paying $5k.
