Another flat bed trip to the dealer....

Was driving, heard a thump then shifter stuck in 3rd gear, cant **** out of it. Assuming shifter cable snapped? 42k on her, bit annoyed. Luckily from AAA call to delivery at the dealer only 50 minutes time so could have been worse!

Quick google search netted lots of issues with this on the 997's. Anyone experienced similar?

sure did...my bro was driving when it happened. Apparently very common for Porsche and not just 911s. A buddy's Cayman did the same thing. I changed to the Numeric Racing cable for the same price as oem. Much more sturdy. Just a little more noisy. Much more precise shift feel.

Mine popped off once. Jacked it up and slid underneath and was able to reattach it.

cable snap at the transmission side is the diagnosis. $1100 repair and its VERY common they say. The new part is upgraded vs. stock according to the dealer otherwise I would have went with the Numeric cable as mentioned above.

just a quick update now its back from the dealer, the shifting feel is VASTLY improved. Perhaps over time I did not notice how imprecise it had become? Or maybe the new parts (both cables replaced) are simply better? Not quite sure. For reference I have the factory short shifter. Anyways, back in business!
