Stock style large inlets vs fender/intercooler inlets

Guy,

I need your help /suggestions.

With the thought of larger 67-68mm VTG turbos in the future, which set up would you suggest?

I like the idea of having everything in place as the OEM and just using the larger EVOMS inlets vs fender/intercooler inlets aka Protomotive inlets. I do not need to cut anything and the intercoolers and intake has separate intakes. This is one of the reason I so love the well designed AMS Alpha 9 kit, but the $$ are saying no after this 997 purchase!

I can see how the fender/intercooler inlets can be less of a restriction, but it is taking from the intercooler air.

The flip side of the coin is that some of the fastest 911 have the fender or direct intakes off the turbo.

I really would not like to cut up my turbo and have the OEM look & functionality (separate intake for turbo and intercoolers) when opening the engine compartment.

What is starting to sway that thought is many of these cars are running the Fender/intercooler set up.

Suggestions / facts welcomed!!

Thanks

Bobby Ali

I think the EVOMS inlets pipes only flow 6% more than the stock inlet pipes. (remember reading it somewhere, probably on their website)
The fenderwell intakes are in front of the intercoolers sucking all the air and dirt.

ESMOTOR carbon rear wing intake has the best of both solutions.

Inlets

So the only difference in the Protomotive one is the material used and the ES one does not cover over intercoolers , but is placed more to the sides of the intercoolers??

It looks like a fenderwell intake and has the same characteristics in flowing air to the turbos but it's a inlet pipe.

Those red/orange silicone hoses are the inlet pipes that connect the air box to the carbon piece.

Wow that is nice, but I do not see that on his website other then the one that is like Protomotive one.

Do you have make any extra holes for that in the body?

Thanks

Yes, you need to make a hole in the body.

Emre has to update his website. He has a lot of new parts

I am not sure I want to cut a hole in the car.

I guess ES first one that looks like Protomotives that doesn't cover the intercoolers cores as much as the Protomotives is looking good.

Hey Pete, how did you make out with those inlet pipes? I've been waiting for an update from you in that other thread...

Champion makes a beautiful carbon fibre set of inlet pipes but damn they are expensive. I think the EVOMS set flows 10% more than stock, at least according to their website.

For the 996 there were dyno comparisons of cars with original vs aftermarket inlet pipes. This showed that they were a significant bottleneck in that car. Not sure why there is very little dyno or performance data for the 997tt inlet pipes. I'd be more likely to part with my $$$ if there was some proof of the pudding!

Didn't I do the update? My bad...but they're OK, installed and work. The pics on their website are from my engine. No fitment issues whatsoever. (Well, not if your engine is a 997, but mine's is a 996 and the oil return line to the sump on the right hand side of the engine is different and on the way. I'll change the line next time I drop the engine...)

Those look like a nearly identical profile to the EVOMS pipes. Great price too, I would buy them. I have the AMS pipes but have been having problems since I got them installed so I haven't posted my review yet.

I was under the impression that those AMS inlet pipes where initially designed for their Alpha 9 package with their A28 turbo's?

I was reading that you had some fitment issues with the VTG's, so there still isn't a solution as of yet?

Thanks

The 996 inlets have two coming off the turbos that "squish" down very small (bottle neck) in a couple of areas and then they both merge into one with another odd "squish" (bottle neck) and then they share that into the airbox.

The 997 have two separate inlets right into the airbox, making them less restrictive for smaller HP applications.

With my 996 I did the EVOM's inlets with Speedtechs Plenum that gets rid of that stock y-pipe join for a wide opening. This is what a FULL proper set up should be and not just the EVOM's inlets getting bottle necked by the stock Inlet Plemum!!! If you see a picture of the stock 996 inlets you wonder how even stock turbo's breath!

After the install of this with just a flash to get the car idling & to drive to 20km home (so I could trailer it to EPL and get a live dyno tune) and just off wastegates, This set up outspooled my Billet K16 WITH K24 BILLET 20 WHEELS!! The boost was more responsive & felt like it out spooled my BILLET 16's (with stock inlets and plenum) by over 400rpm's with the K24 BILLET 20's!!

This is why I am being a little picky to make sure I put on the best overall inlet's for performance, fitment, engineering, quality and represents what Porsche would of done if they were designing inlets for 800bhp.

Again this is why I love the AMS Alpha 9 Setup, because I believe it represents exactly that, bit for the full kit.

I most likely will be sticking with the VTG's so I am looking for something that would work now an if and when I go to Alpha/Gt turbos.
