997tt dme dump

Having a BMW M3 E46 I was able to read/write the my eprom contents easily with Galletto 1260 and a simple OBD interface.
Is there any easy way to do the same on my 997 Turbo (MY2007).
What is your experience in the field? Is there any S/W and H/W I can use?
The reason I need it is to keep its original file in case I need to restore.

Depends on what you are trying to rewrite. If you are talking just the tune, then absolutely, all the tuners out there have the capability through their software and a Durametric cable or Cobb Tuning has the Accessport or FVD has their propritary handheld.

If you are talking about wiping the DME completely (eliminating overrevs) then none of the user software allows it and I dont think you are going to get much help here.

PIWIS can do it I am sure but then there is the question if you are intentionally hiding something.

Thanks for the help, I am not trying to hide anything. The only part I am interested in is the to reverse the ecu to stock program if I ever tune it.

If that is all you are looking to do then any of the tuners on the forum can assist....

Protomotive, Cobb, FVD, Champion etc can all return to stock!

I hope they participate in the thread, because I want to backup my original file before I decide which way (in terms of tuner) I am going.

Thanks again

Upon installation of an Accessport you are given the option to save the ROM file that is currently on the vehicle's DME. That process can be timely so if you choose not do save the file, we also have included factory ROM files in our firmware that can be used during the Uninstall process.

+1 and the response is spot on. You have the option to save your factory ROM. I always encourage everyone to attach a battery charger/tender to, turn off radio, A/C and headlights, then attach the Cobb and begin the Rom upload or install process.

I never really understood why people stressed about "their file" for a back up. If I were going back to stock I would want Porsche's latest offering... and really that's the file I would want my tuned calibration based off of as well.
Thanks for you input. As far as "Porsche's latest offering" I have to say for the record that the "latest" is not necessarily the best. As time passes and magazines stop testing cars, a manufacturer might de-tune a little for the shake of safety of the engine and the company's reputation. Some other times, environmental concerns might be the reason to de-tune. If the most powerful output of the engine was the case, Porsche and any other manufacturer would definitely be able to put all tuners out of business.
That is why I think having all possible software, gives you options...
