997 Turbo CPO Warranty! ~HELP~
997 Turbo CPO Warranty! ~HELP~
Looking at picking up a 997 turbo from a non porsche dealer, and the issue I ran into is the car is under CPO until late 2015 but the fact that its not a private to private transaction makes the CPO non transferrable!
How does the dealer even find that out if I bring it in? By Carfax / car history? or CPO paperwork that needs to be filled out to transfer?
Thats a shame as the car was just recently CPOed several months back and because it was traded to a non porsche dealer it doesnt stay with the car.
Anybody know a way around this or anything that can be done? The CPO on this would really seal the deal and it'd be a shame to buy this without that on there!!!
Please help!

I ran into the same problem with a 3rd party dealer before I ultimately picked up my 07 turbo from Porsche dealer. While you may be able to find ways to get around this (i.e. get 3rd party dealer/owner to sell you the car privately) I wouldn't risk it. If you really want to buy this car and PPI checks out, I would treat this car as a non-CPO thus reducing the price you should pay. Never believe any guarantees 3rd party dealers make about validity of CPO after sale.
Yes - thats what its leading me to believe.
I had yet to look at it (tomorrow) but car looks clean, 40K miles on an 07. Based on my previous 997 experience (base), car was solid and everything Im reading points to the fact that the turbo is even more bulletproof and isnt prone to IMS issues. I hope im correct in my assumptions and can use the non-cpo status as bargaining tool.

Doesn't make sense to me, I brought mine from a non-Porsche dealer (Jake's Motorcars) and had CPO warranty. The CPO warranty also pulled up when I asked a Porsche dealer to run the VIN. I had my RMS leak fixed under CPO. I've always thought that the CPO ties with the VIN. Doesn't matter if it's private or non Porsche dealer.
Yeah you are lucky, I also bought mine from jakes and the Porsche dealership here in Vancouver knew it was sold via a non Porsche dealership and the CPO was not in effect because of that

Also, just because the car was "just CPO'd" doesn't mean it has a clean bill of health. Pdealers sell them as CPO even with known issues but choose not to fix them before selling the car.....ultimately the new owner will bring it in for work to be done under CPO warranty

RMS was a huge problem for 996 Porsche's not for 997's for the most part. They fixed lots of car for free or for very little, my dad bought his 2001 C4 in and they check it out for free and said if they had to repair it they would do it even though it was 10 yours out of warranty. There is also a class action lawsuit that would refund people who had to pay for the fix or engine replacement for the RMS. I owned 3 different 996's and got paperwork for all three cars, never had a problem. There is also a class action lawsuit for the water pipes in the Cayenne's.
mb coastal- re your extended warranty- call sunset porsche in oregon- ask for finance mgr. i recently got a 6 yr/60k miles fidelity platinum warranty, for my low mileage 07 997.1TT which still has CPO, from them at a decent price- ask for RL,RT or excellence pricing- about 15% discount- i was told it's cheaper to get the extended warranty before my CPO expired & while mileage was <25k.
