Any concern buying a 997.2 PDK without warranty ??

Hi guys, I have been reading some reviews and watching videos of the 991 turbo s doing launch control over and over again. I was just wondering if the 997.2 version is as stout?? I think I am going to look into a low mile 12-13 turbo s.

I have also looked at some of the 997.1 turbo tiptronics as well. I'm aware the PDK is a far superior transmission and shifts much quicker and smoother. Honestly my biggest concern is replacement cost and if it's strong enough to just support some bolt ons like exhaust and a good tune flash.

I'm trying to just get an idea of the exact car I want. The 997.1 2009 auto comes with the tiptronic I believe and with an exhaust and a flash I'm sure would make me happy. Or saving a little longer and either try to ger a 12-13 turbo s. just looking for opinions. Thanks for your help

Have you driven any of these cars yet? Find a CPO'ed 997.1 and you will be very happy. Who said the PDK was smoother then the TIP?

I've driven my friends manual 08 turbo but his is heavily modded. By smoother I meant around a racetrack the trans seems to downshift perfectly and know what gear to always be in. So if I looked for a 2009 turbo with tip would it be ok to do a ecu flash and exhaust with the tip ? Just wondering how much stock power they can handle.

Some of the fastest turbos out there are tips-There have been threads about just how much power it can safely handle-seems around 700hp. Your exhaust/flash would just be the starting point-but generally agreed that is the place to start-and maybe that's all you'll want to do.

Thanks for all you info and help. Ok last stupid question I promise. If I decided to save a little longer and go for the newest 997.2 turbo s I could afford I'm sure id be happy with just an exhaust and tune. This is only a weekend car. My question is if the worst happened and the PDK blew I'd be stuck with a bill for 20k plus I'm assuming. Therefore in your opinion do you think if the same happened in a tiptronic would it be much cheaper to replace?? Or am I being a sissy man and overthinking this. I know Porsche is a very reliable car.

Maybe I missed it, but why tip? I have to say, a 2007-2009 manual will be a perfect weekend car. And really they are very reliable and there are some low mileage 2007s out there.

Daily driver and I might consider the PDK/tip. Weekend driver.. Manual! (At least for me)

Just a forklift accident many years ago. Makes the manual too hard to operate and takes the pleasure away. All I would want is to add about 100 horsepower. I'm guessing thats close to possible with the flash and exhaust?? I live in New Jersey and I'm just use to traffic and become use to the auto and cruising. If the Tiptronic in auto mode is even a little comparable to the PDK in auto mode than it may be worth looking into for me. I know the PDK is far superior in manual mode but I think most of my time would be just leaving it in auto anyway.

Understood. Best of luck. Sounds like for your needs the tip may be ok. And from what I've seen, 100 HP may be a little aggressive for a flash and exhaust. I think you are more in the 50-75 HP range unless you start more aggressive mods.

Nah I'm probably over estimating what I want. Im sure I'd probably love a CPO 997.1 tip car with those mods. I'm use to the A4 shushbox in my C5 vette and A6 slushbox in the C6. If the tiptronic is pretty stout and can safely handle the mods I mentioned I will at least look into that option. Do you know if for some reason I broke that tiptronic if It can be built back up and stronger? Do vendors on this forum do that type of thing?? I just know the tip is approaching dinosaur land and I don't want to have an irreplacable part.

Tiptronic transmissions are a "standard" automatic transmission, and are allegedly pretty stout even stock. But, if needed, they can be rebuilt to stronger than OEM spec. IIRC, Porsche used the 5 speed Mercedes Benz transmission. Renntech and ES Motor can offer built transmission upgrades I think.

Ok thank you, this is great peace of mind. I think come spring time I am going to look for a CPO 997.1 Turbo tiptronic.
